Hart: Lack of SEC experience OK

After saying he’d like to hire a head football coach with SEC experience, UT's Dave Hart hired Cincinnati’s Butch Jones — a man with no SEC experience. And he's OK with that.

    • I think we are extremely fortunate that Charlie Strong turned us down. Between him and CBJ, I definitely think CBJ is the best fit here. I love the energy and confidence he brings. That said, I think we fans are going to have to be very patient. He is not going to win an SEC championship this year or next. It will take some time. As long as he is moving in the right direction, we need to be willing to give him that time. As we start winning games we aren't favored in and hopefully move back into the rankings, we'll start picking up better recruits. If he isn't just completely stinking the joint up like CDD did, we need to give him at least 5 years before we realistically expect to be back in the championship mix.

    • A good coach should be able to drastically improve the team in 2-3 years tops. (Saban, Muschamp, and Franklin for example). We will know after 2 years is my guess and if it is on the edge I might give LAJ 4 years - but if we aren't in the mix in 4 years we will have to move on again.

    • While I'm glad and thankful we have Jones, there are no two ways about it, Hart (and A$$ Cheek) are not very good. He bitched the search IMO. First off his whole press conference when CDD was canned was a joke. He was "writing checks his body (or the University) couldn't cash". He backed himself into a corner and now he looks like a liar or an idiot, you choose. I firmly believe Jimbo Fisher was his first and only choice. I believe Hart thought he could get Jimbo whenever he wanted and would be a hero. Then when Jimbo said no, Hart was like "oh crap what do I do now"? That's when the cluster ensued. But this is JMO.

      Next year we are looking at an offense that lost 75% of its scoring and a defense that will be starting over. I am afraid we could have another losing season, I would be thrilled to win 6 games. biggrin But CBJ has to recruit well through this to turn the program around. hammer
