Da'Rick Rogers' status uncertain

Da'Rick Rogers

Tennessee junior-to-be wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers

All-SEC junior-to-be wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers wasn’t at Tennessee football practice Thursday morning on Haslam Field, and his status going forward remains uncertain.

    • Wes,
You talk to these guys. Is Da"rick pompous or just less than bright. He could be big time - but the pros are getting tired of problem players. Every time he hits the papers it costs him future income.

    • Is Da'rick not the most frustrating player ever. It's not like other problem players where you see flashes of talent. This kid is the real deal, but can't get it (whatever it is) together. I don't care what his problem is at this point. It's selfish, and he is hurting his team.

    • I take away a few positives from this information.

      1) Dooley is done playin' with Da'Rick. It currently appears to be a battle of wills between player and coach. When Dooley says "Da'Rick could be back today," I translate that as Da'Rick knows what he has to do and he is just refusing to do it.

      2) Dooley is right on target when he says the focus of spring practice on offense is fixing the running game. Call me crazy, but I think a fixed run game does more to improve our entire offense than Da'Rick does at WR, especially considering the talent we have arriving in the summer.

      3) Sounds like the other receivers have moved on from Da'Rick and are coalesced around Hunter. This is a Very Good Thing.

      4) Da'Rick is kind of in no man's land as far as transferring. This is almost guaranteed to be his last season of college ball, and there's no way he gets released to an SEC school. So he can suck it up here at UT, or go play smallball in FCS.

All that being said, I hope he pulls it together, because his talent is undeniable, but I won't shed any tears if he bails. Go Vols!

    • If DD wants to keep his job he better wake up and smell the coffee.
Rogers is a cancer and he's gonna kill the program up there this year if DD don't do something. He's a kid that want listen and it's killing the team as we talk. All everyone is talking about is him.
He better (DD) tell him to hit the road

    • It amazes me that this young man is choosing to go the way of Janzen Jackson, which will cost him MILLIONS of dollars in income. Very frustrating!

I think CDD is doing something. He's obviously set some rules by which DaRick must live, and is not willing to let him participate as long as he doesn't follow. Ball's in Roger's court - not Dooley's.

    • A shame to hear, but I'm not surprised at all. The kid comes from a difficult background before finding the Nances and he can't seem to escape that. I hope he learns quick, but I'm not optimistic based on Wes' comments. It would take quite an awakening for him. As other posters have said, I think it's time to cut him loose and move on, and definitely time to focus energy on the running game.

    • I hope he gets it together. I would really miss hearing Bobby Denton saying, "Bray's pass complete to Da REEK Rogers . . ."
