great article and they might not have been surprised but clearly that hurt ; we are in good shape with the kid coming in here early next week and the fact that he had an offer from Stanford and others is a great sign . Looking great on the HIll , congrats on a great class

Probably has something to do with the 11 offensive linemen we've brought in over the past ~18 months. You can't score points very well with an offensive roster full of fat guys running 5 second 40s. At least not in the SEC...

Because in the last 2 yrs we have signed 11 oline players! Dooley said this will probably be the only yr that we don't sign one!

There have been a couple of articles addressing this over the past few days.
In my opinion, OL was not a need this year. Yes, UT would have taken Jelks if he wanted to come or the center from CA. But they have oversigned the last two/three years and didn't NEED anyone this year. We redshirted three or four over the past couple of years plus picked up Bullard, so we are 2 and 3 deep across the front with big bodies. From memory, we lose on senior next year on the OL.
I am sure that next year will be the year of the OL and LB, just like this year was DT's, WR's, RB's, and DB's. You recruit to need until you have a fully stocked pantry, then you can start recruiting the best regardless of position.
As a side note, if someone wants to complain about OL recruiting, it is the Gator fans. Even with their depleted number and the loses of three starters from last year, they signed 2, just 2. Yes, they are a very good 2, but they have absolutely no depth. Plus, we know from experience about having to play true freshman OL.
I foresee a Big Orange victory in the third week next year!

Don't worry about it, we have good depth there and still have some freshmen O linemen because of red shirting. The numbers on the roster tell the tale.

You tell me not to worry about the oline but when i watch games on saturday all i see is these kids getting beaten down like redheaded step children. I dont care if we have 17 olinemen if 3 of them are sec talent still got 2 more who arent. Only as strong as our weakest olineman. Plus depth. Numbers yeah, talent who knows. I will report back in 2013.

UT can afford to move people like Jaques Smith to the OLB position too because he couldn't play then end position in a 3-4 anyways. I think we'll be fine. Plus we probably won't see them move to a majority 3-4 base defense in Sunseri's first season. They will still likely play a lot of 4-3 this season, which gives you Maggit, Johnson and one other (possibly Lathers if he's fully healthy, or one of the new guys), it won't be until next season likely that we'll see UT move to a base 3-4 and see them play that more than the 4-3.

Agree, we have the numbers and some very good quality OLmen. It will be interesting how they develop with the new coaches in place. OLmen were just not a high priority for 2012 and it should not have been with the needs at other positions.
