Ga. LB Mouhon decommits from Vols

Tennessee’s large 2014 recruiting class became a bit less crowded Thursday.

Three-star senior linebacker Kevin Mouhon of Norcross (Ga.) High School decommitted from Tennessee on Thursday night.

Three-star senior linebacker Kevin Mouhon of Norcross (Ga.) High School decommitted from Tennessee on Thursday night, reopening his recruitment just four days after he returned home from an official visit to Cincinnati.

The 6-foot-0.5, 223-pound Mouhon, who had been committed to the Vols for more than six months, said he’s no longer considering Tennessee.

“I just felt like I had better opportunities elsewhere,” he said.

Mouhon, who’s the younger brother of Cincinnati defensive end Silverberry Mouhon, declined to comment on what teams other than the Bearcats are still in the picture in his recruitment. He said he plans to announce his final decision on National Signing Day on Feb. 5.

Earlier this month at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, the younger Mouhon told govols247 that he planned to take an official visit to Cincinnati this month. But he insisted at the time that the trip would be “just for” his brother, downplaying his possible interest in the Bearcats.

Mouhon is ranked the nation’s No. 345 overall player and No. 13 inside linebacker for the 2014 class in the 247Sports Composite, which equally weighs prospect rankings and ratings from major recruiting media outlets.

He announced his commitment to the Vols on July 21 while attending their “Foundation Day.”

Mouhon was one of six projected linebackers in the Vols’ 2014 class, which now is down to 33 known commitments.

Four-star linebacker Jakob Johnson of Ribault High School in Jacksonville, Fla., arrived on campus earlier this month as one of Tennessee’s 14 early enrollees from the 2014 class.

The Vols also hold commitments from Top247 linebacker Dillon Bates of Ponte Vedra (Fla.) High School, Top247 linebacker Gavin Bryant of Jackson (Ala.) High School, four-star linebacker Chris Weatherd of Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, and three-star linebacker Elliott Berry of Creekside High School in Fairburn, Ga.
