Not a single name from this list is "exciting". That's the problem. Might some of these guys be good coaches? Sure. But do any of them "win the day" with the media and/or recruits?
Seems like everyone on the board that is talking Butch Jones is trying to sell the board on him. Good luck with recruits. Hire whomever now but it just seems like the possibility of creating a buzz around the program is now gone. Disappointment at a missed opportunity is all that remains.
Two things strike me as an outsider but big Vol fan on this search. 1. Either Hart totally botched this thing up or 2. The reality of what this program really is now and going forward has truly come to the surface. Hate to say it but maybe Tenn is no better than a mid level SEC program going forward.
If that is the case. Why not give a Bobby Petrino a shot despite all the baggage he brings. Very polarizing but will at least give some buzz. Sure it's a risk but there is no doubt the guy can coach and in the SEC. Butch Jones or anyone else of his caliber is just as big of a risk at this point.
Depressing.........

i have been completely opposed to Petrino from the get go. Hate his actions and his track record. but, for the first time, i have to say, im starting to rethink that. I think Butch Jones would be disastrous for us, and if that means Petrino, then i might just have to hold my nose and accept it. and when i say "disastrous" for Butch Jones, dont rage at me. I mean that it would likely be 3-4 more years of mediocrity, which to me would be disaster.
