  • That is our rushing yards per game. Run the ball and we win a lot more. Do not abandon the run. For all the slack we get for lack of a running game that is pretty impressive.

It is impressive, and frankly is our strength, but it is also counterproductive when we run the no huddle. We have to shorten games and keep our defense off the field.

  • I would abandon the no huddle. I also think Neal will get close to 1100 yards

This! Why run a no huddle and put even more pressure on a defense that's not very good. Our time of possession has been a lot less in sec play.

  • I agree with both posts. I think Chaney has become so fascinated with the no huddle that he neglets the run game at times when really we have been strong. I was expecting near 100 a game but 168 is just really impressive. If I am Dooley and my job is on the line(assuming he can still save it) I run the ball 40 times on Saturday. I think it would make Bray more effective and limit our defensive liability on the field.

  • There are so many more benefits to running the ball well vs throwing the ball well. It doesn't take much to figure that out.

  • Bray should only have to throw 20-25 times a game

  • Why the hate on the no-huddle? Couldnt that be part of the reason why we are having success running the ball? The ESPN announcers even stated it Saturday that the no-huddle was disrupting what Saban and Smart like to do which is constantly subbing in and out to get the perfect unit out there on every play. The no-huddle keeps you off balance and can keep a D gased when its run efficiently.

Your right it does keep a defense gassed...OURS.

  • Agree with last poster. No huddle may not be the problem as much as play calling. Also think Lane showed a heck of a lot verse the Tide. A bit of a burst, second and third effort and a slashing ability.

I would also bring out the orange dog in practice to motivate the recievers.

  • We're deep at running back, all of our backs are much more than serviceable. When we play cute and Bray isn't into the game, we get hammered. Running the ball more is the path to make this into a much better team.

Our defense sucks, so we might as well slow the game down, and limit the time that they are a liability. Plus don't overlook the fact of how much it effects the other team when you cram it down their throat. It's demoralizing and it wears them out.

Alabama is Alabama because they absolutely pummel the other team in to submission for 4 quarters on both sides of the ball. What was it, the '96 or '97 Orange Bowl that Nebraska just took us to the woodshed, and everybody in the stadium knew they were going to run the ball.

    7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

    5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

  • Its hard to run the ball when your opponent scores on every possession and we know we have to keep up. Offense is not the problem. We simply don't have a good defensive scheme. As bad as I grew tired of 3 and long Chavis, I sure wished he was back!

  • Chaney thinks we're in the Big 10. I don't think we'll run on all cylinders as long as he's our OC

That being said, we'll probably recruit good QB's and WR's, but we all know what wins in this league. We've seen it before around here.

I agree on chaney I think if it wasn't for Dooley being around then Chaney would send five wideout everytime. Don't like Chaney at all....

  • Why the hate on the play calling? We have scored more than 30 points numerous times this season, if Patterson jails one in against UGA, Hunter hauls in a few against MSU and Bama its a different outlook completely. Guys its not always the coaching more often then not its players not executing. scheming has been good this season, if players get lined up on defense and make the tackles they get to, the defense looks better. So everybody wants to hammer CDD, CJC, and CSS for all of the struggles, myself included, but the players are ultimately responsible for what has been happening the last month.

^^^This^^^ +1. It also makes the play action pass incredibly efficient. In fact it makes the entire passing game more efficient.

the downside is it wears our defense down and makes them even more vulnerable than they would be. i'm torn on the no huddle, because i would prefer to run the ball more, but one thing that it does in our favor is it makes it difficult for the defense to substitute, which obviously should help our running game and our passng game. one thing to note, you can run a no huddle without it being a "hurry up" offense. I think in more cases than not, that's what we do. We shouldn't be snaping the ball with 15 seconds left on the play clock. Correct me if I'm wrong (I usually am), but the no huddle can be run like Oregon (hurry up, snap it quickly) or like the Colts did and the Broncos do with Peyton (call the play at the line and use the clock, but prevent substitutions from the other team).

It would also allow the call to be made from the sideline as it is in most cases now.
