  • I love reading thigs like this, great work/post.

Two things jump out at me,
    1. UT didn't sign too many from the top 100, even in 2004(I read thru quickly, Demonte Bolden was a bust). That shocked me.
    2. The number of top 100 recruits that NEVER played in the NFL. I really hope today's recruits know this kind of information and realize how important the classroom is.

  • atttition numbers are fairly static through the top 100 or top 5000 high school players. 35-40% of BCS players don't even finish with school they sign with. that will reduce the NFL pool. lots of reasons from getting arrested to quitting football.

Great stuff, Larry. Thanks. It will take a while to take all of this in.

I am starting to think that the platform that we put these kids on, un intended or not, will keep most of them from believing that anything bad could happen to them. I think it stems directly from our high schools, no proof here, but I am sure there are way too many HS that give anything these kids want...it creates an entitled culture within athletics, one that is already there to begain with from even an earlier age. When these kids get to college, they really don't believe it when someone tells them they can't do something.

Excellent Post!! What you said is So true!! Why do you think so many of these Big Star recruits change Highschools 2 or 3 times before they graduate? The Hype is so out of control at this point (IMO) and you are exactly right!! (Platform) (Stage) (Pedastal) The Bigger question is? Look where most of them end up in the End? It's the New Era of Me Me Me ball at the expense of everyone else that surrounds them IMO

Wow! That's some work you've done there. Great read. Not surprised that Northwestern and Stanford have low attrition, but kinda interesting that Vandy is not down there with them.
