Not negativity, just realism. I think most people on this board would be thrilled with a 7 win season next year. It is what it is.

Oh I know it isn't construed as negativity. Like I mentioned we have been bad for a few years. I have realistic expectations this time of year, but once August rolls around I see us winning more than we will as I have my blinders on. I am eager for this season and to see how we perform on the field with a new coach.

Oh yea when we start 2-0 and our defense plays respectable we will all think we have a chance. I will try not to get that way, but it's bound to happen.

  • The only chance we have is to pound the ball on every play when we're on offense. Our OL needs to take control of the line of scrimmage, and we need to have 8 minute drives where we're running the ball for 3-6 yards on every play, and those drives need to end in TDs. Keep their offense off the field and completely wear down their defensive line by the fourth quarter.

That said, if the spread was 20.5 and the game was today, I'd bet the house on Oregon.

  • As a note...when we play Ore. on the road the following SEC teams play:
    Vandy-UMass
    Kty-Miami (Oh)
    Auburn- Wash St
    Missouri- Toledo
Ark- UofL (Lafayette) all the above at home.
I give credit to MisSt playing OKSt & Ole Miss playing Texas.... the 1st 5 teams play 3 other stiffs the rest of their non-conf.
schedule & those teams are our immediate rivals in the pecking order to move up for a bowl, etc.

True statement drizzy. I'm a pretty optimistic guy but after being way too optimistic about last year(truthfully, who seen what was coming on the D side?) I've got it toned down for the upcoming one. 7 wins would be great especially if they were all regular season with a chance for #8 in a bowl(sorry, there I go again). I'm really pumped about the energy and enthusiasm that CBJ brings. But making a bowl would be a step in the right direction and give us all a little more insight as to how good at Xs and Os this staff is. The Oregon game- would just love to make a good showing. Anything above that would be gravy.

  • Oregon is one program I do have some inside knowledge of. I expect them to be just as good with Helfrich as the coach and you will probably see their recruiting actually improve. Anyone that spent 5 mins with Chip could tell you he is a complete jerk where as Helfrich is very well liked by players and is a very good recruiter. I would not expect to beat them next season. They are much deeper than us and I do not see our LBs matching up very well with their speed and the mismatches they will put us in.
