Maggit tore his ACL so will he even be back in time to start the season?

Re Maggit:

I think he'll be cleared to play by the first game if there are no setbacks. Medically, as far as the actual strength of his knee, he should be fine by May/June. Then it's a contact/mental thing.

With no setbacks or nagging issues, I would assume he'd be 100% mentally and physically by the 2nd or 3rd week of he regular season.

There are two significant differences between his ACL injury and Hunter's:

1) His was a contact injury. Typically contact injuries cause more trauma to the joint itself and lead to more swelling/bruising/etc. Those things need to resolve before surgery can be performed in almost every instance. Non-contact injuries typically have fewer pre-surgical complications.

2) Maggitt's just a much bigger guy. Bigger/heavier people tend to take a little bit longer to be medically cleared because the knee has that many more pounds of torque applied to it. I used to have a chart that showed the relationship between weight and joint stress, but I don't anymore.
