A question about assistant coaches?

  • Realistically speaking do we think that many of the coaches on staff could be retained? I heard Hart say he doesn't get to involved in those type decisions. I also thought I read where he would give a head coach total control. There was a report on one of the Sports Animal radio shows today saying that some of the O lineman were going to approach Hart about retaining Pittman and I think that it would be a good move to keep Graham, and possibly Ansley and Conklin who seem to be popular with recruits. Is that realistic though? Wouldn't most coaches want control to hire there guys? Thanks in advance for opinions.

  • I don't see them keeping both Ansley and Conklin together but maybe. Maybe Conklin could coach another position but with his expertise I think it makes Ansley odd man out. I do feel they are both gonna be very good. Depends on DC I guess.

This is an impossible question at this point. You're asking which coaches will the new Tennessee coach keep, and we haven't answered the question of who's Tennessee's next coach. FWIW, I'd say Sunseri's gone, that's easy. A new coach will most certainly bring in his own coordinators. It's too big of a piece of what they do. So consider Chaney gone. A couple of position coaches will stay. There's nothing new about any of this you're asking.. This happens at every school that has a coaching change.

But still this question is pretty pointless...right now.

  • Understand what you are saying, just question based on what is being said by AD, players, ect. I agree that a new coach will want and should get full control.

any thoughts around that will be discussed during the talks, like many other factors. all will factor into someone taking the job or not.. for some, keeping some might not be a deal breaker if all else is fine. for others, it might be..

Just an outsider looking in JCJ.....But I agree, it's way too early for all that. If you guys no longer need Jay Graham though just let us know , ok? We'll take him back in a heartbeat. Not knocking our replacement for Jay by any means but Jay is solid on the recruiting trail and a standup guy. Good luck to the Vols in your search!

Thanks, KHC, but I hope like hell that we keep Jay. He's been one of the few bright spots to hang hope on here.

  • Jay Graham & Pittman I hope are retained but a o-line coach might not work with certain coordinators.

  • I have a feeling that Gruden wouldn't keep any of the asst's. I think he'd totally restaff with his guys. JMO. But I think the guys he brings would be as good or better in most cases. That being said, I would love to keep Graham who has a history of bleeding orange.
