  • Defense wins Championships it's been proven time and again . Best of all an aggressive defense that plays fast and loose tends to have a trickle down effect to rest of the team . tennesseekoolaid

Shamefully, I cannot remember the list of DCs we have had. I do remember the attacking defenses we had in the 80s and the DLines of the 90s that produced sacks. We had Andre Lott with 8 INTs in his senior year and Eric Berry as a superstar. Did our talent fall off that much or did we have a big change in defensive philosophy over the years that lead to fewer "negative plays" forced by our D? I know a player like EB comes along once in a decade, but I remember being in the Superdome on January 1, 1986 when we had 8 sacks against Vinny Who. I remember keeping Auburn to negative offense in the first half in 1989? 19990? We had smothering defenses that the SEC feared.

I hope we can return to the days of defense being the game changers.

    less than 9 days.

Ken Donahue, a former coach for Bama was the DC for the Sugar Vols. Loved that defense!

  • I hope we keep Sal well paid and give him no reason to leave. Our defense will do nothing but get better each and every game.

    A. This article get's me fired up, you have to like a mentality that says we can beat you on O or on D. B. At first I was a little concerned because if our Offense meets expectations, a bend but don't break Wilcox type D might be a nice complement. Then I remembered all the time killing drives that kept our O off the fiend and our inability to impact the game on D last year, this is going to be much better.

Great point about time consuming drives in the bend don't break D. +1

So far as I know i think he's the starting Jack Linebacker with Willie Bohannon his backup. I think he'll be fine once he's in agame and we will likely hear his name called alot more than in previous games.

  • Coach Sal seems like a natural leader. He seems to have gotten everyone to buy in to his mentality. I love the "Crush them before they get started" mentality. I hope he is a Vol for a long time. Love his philosophy. High powered offenses will come and go from season to season, but a tough, solid defense can be the bedrock of a program for years.
