    3 wins vs teams with a winning record. Navy, Army, and Uconn
    @Miami
    The team posted a 6–6 (3–5 ACC) record in 2011. It was only the third time since 1979 that the program had failed to register a winning record.

    Currently in 2012 they are 5-5 with a (4-3) conference record.

    Currently they are sitting in 61st in recruiting one spot behind Temple.

    Last season they were 10th in the nation signing 32 kids 24 of which were from Florida.

    I think before you hire a guy like Golden, you just get a proven older coach like Cutcliffe or Solich, let them get you back to respectability, and then take another look in 2 or 3 years to see if there is someone out there that can truly transform the program.

  • If the expectation is that the new coach better win in less than 3 years, you probably are going to have to (A) hire someone who is good at doing more with less (like the LA. Monroe coach, dude from Boise St., Cutcliffe or Solich) or (B) someone who is such a big draw that the get an inordinate number of 4 and 5 star players to sign in their 1st or 2nd recruiting classes and improve the talent level tremendously on impact (maybe Gruden, maybe Butch Davis?, not sure who else?). If Gruden talk is all BS, is more likely you get a coach from a smaller program. If No on both counts and you take someone like Golden, UT fans are likely in for disappointment. Next year's schedule isn't easy. No matter who is coach, UT will be very, very, very lucky to win 1 of the 2 early road games at UF and Oregon with the current roster and recruits. Starting off 0-2 in the SEC is rough no matter what year it is (and the OR game could be ugly if D is not markedly better). Facing AL and Mizzou on the road is no picnic either. I think Golden is a compromise candidate that does ot make much sense given the urgency to win Now.

    i understand your logic, but i can't agree with that approach. I'm tired of the coaching carousel.

  • In most cases, I'm all for a great coordinator (IE Kirby Smart, Mark Helfrich).. However, I don't see that being the case with UT. UT needs to hit a grand slam or at least get a great HC at the mid-level of the FBS (IE Butch Jones)..

    I'd much rather have Butch Jones then Al Golden.

    Cuts not the top of my list, but he's above either of those names for me.

  • His defense is ranked 115th this year.....4 places worse than ours! Golden walked into a bad situation, much like Dooley, and both have had similar results. I really hope and think we can do better for a HC, JMO.
