Alright, I'm gonna say it

  • Some people on here disgust me. I'll be the first to admit I wouldn't be that overwhelmed with excitement from this hire, but I still think it is a good hire. What really bothers me is the people on this site, on twitter, and elsewhere who say they're jumping ship after this hire and yet have some form of VFL in their handles.

This will be a purging time at Tennessee. The real fans will stick with the program, renew their season tickets, and support our coach no matter who it is. Those who are not true Vol's For Life can go pretend to like Oregon or Notre Dame. We have no room for those kind of people here.

I have a lot of pent up frustration from this coaching search. Might I be taking it out on these "fans"? Maybe. Do I care? Not really. Who really gives a scensoredt if he lost to Dooley in a single game where he was on the losing end of a talent base?

I know this is the 100th support our new coach thread, but I had to say what I thought.

Go America. Go Vols. Go Our New Coach, whoever you may be.

  • Why do people not like Jones? Go vols!

  • I'm not going anywhere. I'm still flying to Eugene next year and spending my money to watch the Vols play. I'm still going to be obsessed and follow recruiting and cheer like crazy.

But we deserved more than this. This is a settle. We're taking a guy who'd been pursued by Kentucky and Colorado.

Hope he's good, but we deserve more excitement as fans. This fanbase deserves a lot more excitement, and a lot more to hope for than another maybe good hire.

I hardly ever up vote but this got one a great statement, if your a VFL your all in no matter what and as you have stated there seems to be a lot of bandwagoners on this site. JMO

  • I try to go to about 2-4 games a year( I dont live in Tennessee) and have never had season tickets couldn't afford them, but my wife and I are seriously thinking about getting them this year. I can be excited about butch jones being here and will prolly be in line for his autograph at the orange and white game to wish him luck. GO VOLS!

Denver Vol I ask you and everyone else on the Checkerboard. Doesn't it make business sense to buyout the game against Oregon for someone like Middle Tennessee or Memphis or a Big East team so we could be 3-0 going into Florida?

  • The "real fans" like you who uniformly accept the dog crap the University has been spewing for the last decade are the reason we are where we are.Why are we just now getting upset about the academic problems? Why did so many of you support Derek Dooley to the bitter end despite ample evidence he was completely incapable of doing that job?

It is better to be honest. This is a mediocre hire. If Butch Jones is the best Tennessee can do then it's time to stop calling ourselves a major college football program.

If we don't get mad and make it clear to University administration that we don't support mediocrity they are never going to change. NEVER.

Arkansas just hired a guy who has been to three straight Rose Bowls. THREE. And we hire this guy, who has basically spent the last two weeks pretending he's the drunk girl with her boobs hanging out at 3 AM in the bar.

Slight correction he was offered by Purdue, ky. and Colorado. Somebody saw something in him worthy of a hire. They may not be Ala. Fla. Lsu but they have been around for a long time. So maybe we have not done great, but not done to be bad either. At least he wants to be here, not like Gruden, Gundy, and others. So chin up and support the the team.

I am a VFL. Hiring Jones doesn't excite me. Instead of yelling at me because it doesn't, try explaining why it excites you. Maybe it will get me fired up.

  • Hey I like him. If we hire Butch he will work his a$$ off to make sure we succeed. I did say we because all off the Vol Nation will be involved. Every one needs to get off the doom and gloom schlep rock woe is me and get excited. Dude wants to be here. Wants to coach our Vols! Go Butch and Go Big Orange!!!!!

I am supporting the team. Read the post that you quoted.

If you accept hiring a coach who was good enough for Purdue, CO and UK, but not Arky and Auburn, then good for you.

Unfortunately it's not enough for me. If he comes here, I hope he does well. I will always hope that, but I'm not excited. It's not an excited hire. It's another butthole clenching as you hope for the best because you don't want to be the punchline of jokes any more kind of hire.

  • Absolutely will be in my seats next year. I've had them for 30 years and will have to be dead and buried before I give them up. So we need to back the next coach no matter what.

We can thank Gundy and Strong for making us that way by using us to get extensions and raises on their contracts at their respective Universities

Maybe you ought to take MTSU out of that group considering the season they had and the spanking they gave GT....

I'd rather see us go dump $60M on Gruden or some other big-time coach's front lawn than hire another potential, maybe good maybe bad, who really knows kind of guy.

We compete in a nuclear arms race and we keep investing in BB guns.

That isn't their fault. That's what they should do. It's Dave Hart's fault for letting them do it, just like it's Dave Hart's fault if he hires Butch Jones.

Just to recap the three guys our "I HAVE GREAT EXPERTISE" leader has brought in to interview are A) a guy making 3.5M at his alma mater, B) a guy whose AD said less than a month ago he would do literally anything to keep, and C) a guy blatantly flying all over the country looking for the person willing to give him the most money. That is our target list. That is who Dave Hart has scanned the entirety of the college football world and came up with as the most legitimate people to head this program.

It is a colossal failure. You cannot spin it any other way. Butch Jones is not a bad coach, but this is a panic move if it goes down this way and there are better options still out there.

He may not be the sexy hire, but he knows how to win. He has won every where he has been. Look up his record, he's 50-27, not bad. Some will say, well, that's against the MAC. Well, what's our record the past few years? I think he can win here, hell, I think anybody can win here. Now, that is. Dooley did a good job of setting this up for the next guy. We have a good nucleus here. Helluva of an offense was wasted by a terrible defense this year. Any defense at all and we're probably, what, 8-4.
Everybody has to start somewhere....who was Urban Meyer before he won at Florida....Brady Hoke at Michigan...Brian Kelly at Notre Dame. Not sayin' Jones will be THAT successful, but you get my point. He's won every place he's been........why not here. GO VOLS

I think putting tons of money on Gruden is not the way to go. He thanks he is a movie star and so full of himself. I can't see him putting the time and effort that it takes to be successful as a college coach. a place he has not been in a few years. Give me a coach that is still on the rise with blood in his eyes, something to prove and work for. Now Davis is not my first choice, Fedora, I know you don't like him either, but that is my choice. We all have our preferences, and who knows who is right. I supported Bill Battle, and i still think he is the best in game coach i have seen at Tn. but that was back when 9 wins would not get you a contract extension. Well we can all rememince.

  • There has to be something to be said about the fact that he has been "hired" by two other schools. I mean, I didn't see anyone competing against us for Doolander...
