Am i the only one who didnt even read the Butch Jones stuff?

  • If they seriously get down to Butch Jones then we have huge problems. Might as well bring Phil back before you go that route.

    If Strong is not the next coach then somebody in the admin is really screwing the pooch. He's wanted a big time SEC job for years. As every day passes I'm affraid for the future of TN football. Hopefully this thing will get turned around in my lifetime.

  • If we get through these three without a hire, I say next we consider to look at Davis and Petrino. If you can't hold your nose and select one of these, who would surely accept, then I suggest we look at Chavis, keep the offensive staff as close as possible, and in three years hire a hc in waiting to replace him. At some point we need someone that would crawl through glass to get here. Btw, my first post on this site. Very much appreciate the quality of both the posters and moderators!

  • If Jones is the only alternative, I agree that perhaps Fulmer should be given some consideration. I still have confidence that Hart will be able to land on the the Big 3, preferably Strong, Fedora or Gundy in that order. However, if all 3 decide to stay at their respective schools with a fatter paycheck, I would rather have the following scenario than getting too far down "The List":

    Fulmer - HC
    Chaney - OC
    Chavis - DC
    Graham - RB
    Martin - QB
    Hinshaw - WR
    Lance Thompson - DL
    Dale Jones - LB
    Bill Bates - DB
    Staley - GA

    I fully realize that Coach Fulmer had his run at UT and the reasons for his dismissal. However, if we can't get a high profile coach, I would rather see this scenario than another Dooley type hire . . . shrug

  • I agree, If we hire Butch Jones I will not renew my season tickets next year. I am getting tired of shelling out good money for a bad product.

  • If you haven't recognized it, we have problems. Prospects don't appear to be actively pursuing this job. We don't have an all star list to chose from and that is NOT Hart's fault. Everyone said "anyone is better than Dooley" so I hope you were right. If it gets down to Butch Jones and he takes the job I'll say thanks and hope he does a good job. He might not be as sexy as many of the other candidates but you know, with every candidate name posted here the thread always has those that can't stand that particular candidate.

    As to bringing Phil back, that might be the best solution. We need stability not a revolving door. If you want Tee Martin, Jay Graham and the other assistant coached mentioned, Phil is probably the only way you'd get them. Although many labeled this as a Fulmer fault, he is very loyal to his own (including his school). You just won't get that anywhere else.
