I just like the fact CBJ and Co. is going after TN kids that have passion about UT football. That is what our program has lacked for years. Get a bunch of kids on the team that have always eat, breathed, and slept UT football and watch what happens on that field every single down.

Said it before and ill say it again, it's great to get in-state kids, but this idea that what has held our program back is the lack of "passion" by our recruits because they didnt grow up in Tennessee is just misguided bordering on delusional. Playing for your home state school does NOT convert a two star athlete into a five star player. i know it would be great if that were true, but it's simply fantasy. Does anyone really believe that if we signed a class full of 2-3 star kids from Tennessee that we could compete for SEC champioinships?
There is a reason we are at the bottom of the SEC - we are not getting the 4-5 star kids that Alabama, Georgia, LSU, UF, SC are getting. Look at the recruiting rankings in the SEC for the last 5 years and you will see that signing the best players, no matter where they are from, usually means you have the best team. Sure, anecdotally, a low rated player will turn out to be great, and a high rated player will be a bust, but these are exceptions to the general rule that the teams that recruit the best will be the best teams.
So, while we can all cheer for the commitments of guys like Foreman and Swafford, at the end of the day, we are still outside the top 40 in recruiting rankings currently and next to last in the SEC, and we need that to change in the next month.

While I agree whole heartedly about getting higher ranked players I would urge you to actually look at the numbers for each of those programs you mentioned, most of them average at least 10 or more 3 star players in their recruiting numbers also, including the mighty AL. If you look at the way players are evaluated a 3 star player is considered a Div I prospect that likely needs a red-shirt year or two to develop. 4 and 5 star players are usually those that figure to make an immediate impact. TN's roster has numerous 3-4 star players that have been in the program for a couple years and this should carry TN next year. Additionally TN is the mix for at least 3 5 star players that I know of and several 4 star players. Lets give the coaches that have been on staff all of about 3 weeks a chance to close out the recruiting class.....

Man...alot of truth here too.....Everyone seems to be making valid points. I must say Doc....this has been my point since the coaching change took place. Everyone "ragging" on the hire etc...etc....I think we will come out with a strong recruiting class. We all have to remember this. Every Dooley recruit is not always gonna be a fit for CBJ system. They will be focusing on putting the right players in place for the system they run. An athlete is an athlete...BUT....they aren't all created equal in their individual strong points. Some just aren't able to adapt well to a different style system, and the 5 star ranking drops to a low 3 to high 2 if they can't make the transition. Flip side of this is....It is not uncommon for a strong 3 star, low 4 star to exceed the other comparable 5 stars because they are incredibly efficient using their ability to adapt well.....Not a rule of thumbs, but very common none the less.

Can we please lay off the cute aliases for Dooley? The guy did his best, taking the job when almost nobody wanted it. History will show he did a helluva lot to improve our roster and get us back in the hunt.
Nobody likes the Phat Phil jokes, and Dooley deserves the same amount of respect.

Easy.....Everyone has their own take on things.....No one said he did not try his best or do alot for the school, or that we had more to choose from. I call him "Stooley" because he was arrogant, and very bad at keeping fanbase in the loop. When he did, he skated around alot of the issues. Also due to the way he handled legacy players etc... I actually liked alot about him, and supported him thru his tenure here. His ramrodding the new facilities etc... was a huge accomplishment. Was he a bad hire???? Stats say yes! Reality says no. Just wasn't able to make things happen. Stooley is a reference to a stool pigeon. Sorry that bothers you. On the Fulmer issue...He should have stayed as coach and should have been given another year or two to get things back on track. If that had happened, we wouldn't have went thru the Lame Kiffin ordeal, and would not had to settle for Dooley. Hamilton had it out for him I think....We have been fortunate to have 3 of the best coaches in NCAAF history, Neyland, Majors, and Fulmer. My take anyway...I have utmost respect for Fulmer...and always will. Dooley....doesn't deserve to be in that group. IMHO
