And people question Gruden's recruiting.... C'mon man

  • If you question Gruden's recruiting abilities, allow this to open your eyes. Also, my opinion of Dooley diminishes more and more every day with continuous stories like this surfacing.

If Gruden wants the world, you throw in Mars as well. If Dan Patrick was right, there's no excuse for not getting Gruden.

Hargis: Jon Gruden's name only one creating unified buzz for UT | timesfreepress.com

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Like Michael Keaton there is one name on the list of University of Tennessee football coaching candidates that very few journalists want to say aloud.

If we ended up with Gruden, we would land a top 5-7 class this year and a top 3 class next year.

  • Jalen Hurd's quote is very revealing. These young prospects can't remember when UT was good. They know the history, but haven't seen it for themselves. We need someone who can SELL the future to these prospects.

You think if we hire Gruden current prospects are going to call him and tell him they want a scholly? Because that's what it would take to be ranked that high. I do not see that at all.

I wouldn't be surprised at anything honestly. There will be some that will probably.

I heard that Peterson was taking the job at Arkansas the Monday before Thanksgiving. At that time I was also told the Gruden deal was done to UT. The recent comments from Pittman and Graham got me believing for a minute. At this point I have to see it to believe it, but the reports that Peterson is taking the job at Arkansas gave me hope. I wonder if Kevin, Ryan, and Wes hear some of the samethings albeit from folks who do not have firsthand knowledge, but probably get their info from someone in the "room." You can't report that and probably can't confirm the info from a credible source so you can report the info.

  • What does Peterson going to Arky have to do with Gruden?

I think he was saying that whoever told him Peterson was going to Arky told him Gruden was coming here. And then the rumors started flying yesterday that Peterson was going to Arky so it gave him hope that Gruden was ours.

Really? Just weighing the credibility of the info. If I told you that there would be unicorns at the kitchen table in the morning and a chest of gold on the front porch, and you walked to the kitchen to see unicorns eating pancakes and drinking coffee, you'd probably trip over unicorn dung running to the front porch.

Once again, I'm not saying the info is correct. Just saying that part of the coaching info may be right so I'm hoping the other piece is too.

Not VFL, but no, I personally do not think kids will start calling Gruden and asking for a scholly if he were hired. But I firmly believe that Gruden would call kids and end up getting about 60-70% of the guys that he wanted this year, including numerous "flips" and guys that have never even been called by us. I'm not going to speculate as to what ranking he could achieve in his first class but it sure as hell would be better than where it is now. I just don't think anyone can logically argue that Gruden wouldn't recruit top 5 conference classes his first 3 years on his name alone. And top 5 conference classes would be a huge difference from the 8th-10th range we've found ourselves in the last few years.

  • Nice find, jcoope. +1, and thanks for sharing. This is exactly what I imagined some of these recruits would say. Very interesting to hear them actually say it though...

Just judging by the general feeling of what few recruits have spoken out about the situation (a few recruits spoke to Dave "The Hook" Hooker and a few others have mentioned on Twitter), there would be some shuffling amongst where those in the Top 247 if would land if we snagged Gruden.

Ryan would probably be a better one to field this question though.

Good article from Hargis. He had a similar article on Sun I believe...discussing the damage in the Chatt/tri-state area. Very, very disappointing to hear all this stuff post Dooley. Wonder whether Hart has his finger on the pulse of this situation??
