  • This is what will happen to our program bc the coach we hire will fit what UT has become. The glory days are gone our job is not as good as it once was. Also go ahead and accept that we are going to hire our7th or 8th choice bc no big time coach wants this job. I never thought we would become a program trying to get lucky finding a up and coming coach, but we are.

I know things seem rough in the moment but programs go through dips. USCw, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Ect have all been through rough patches. They have all rebounded. Tennessee will do the same. We are in a much better place and direction than we once were. We have a seriously good Athletics Director in Dave Hart, and no matter who he hires I have confidence that it will be a person capable of doing he job. Sit back and relax man. Enjoy the entertainment of this coaching search, and get ready to watch the big orange soon return to glory. GO VOLS!

Just remain calm hickey. Even if we don't get Gruden, I promise you we'll hire a good one. We're not a national championship team yet, but we are worlds better than we were when Dooley took over the mess he did. Mark my words, the next coach we get will do some really good things here.

Lol I'm calling a no panic rule at least until the coaching search is over. Be calm and GO vols

Guess the OP missed the multiple articles where UT was listed as the best of the currently available jobs, and still considered a top-10 or top-20 job in the nation, depending on who is being asked.

  • Yeah, if we get caught in the revolving door mode, stability will be gone and we will reflect Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State and countless other programs that have come before us. As a fan base we are too trigger happy and get what we ask for.

Hickey, are you always this gloomy and whiney?

  • The same Nrbraska that's playing in their conference championship game Saturday? I honestly am not sure how one would consider that to be such a tragic fate for us. Kinda wish we were playing in ours on Saturday. shrug

What the heck are you talking about? We've been one of the most stable coaching jobs in the country since the 1920s.

Seriously, Majors was around for 15 years... Fulmer for 15.5... Bill Battle was given 7 years to run the program into the ground... Doug Dickey was only around for six years because he left to take another job. Kiffin did the same thing as Dickey, so you can't blame us losing him on a quick trigger finger. Bowden Wyatt got 8 seasons to run UT into the ground, just like Battle. And Neyland was the coach at UT for 21 seasons over 26 years.

Derek Dooley is the exception around here rather than the rule, and the only reason he is the exception is because his record after three years was the worst for a Tennessee coach in a century... back before the advent of paid coaches. And in his case it would have been significantly MORE reckless to keep him around rather than firing him, particularly with the way he apparently treated others.

  • Complaining about a hire that hasn't taken place yet reeks of trolling.
Or at least I hope its a troll, because if he's a real UT fan that's just depressing.

  • People are annoyed with negative fans because there are so many of them, and they seem to go out of their way to try and drag people down into the depressed world anytime a glimmer of real hope appears. And quite honestly, people in general dislike pessimists. They are terrible people to be around and just suck all the joy from a room... freaking emotional vampires.

    huh

The UT job is the best on the market and it isn't even close. The only factor is how deep Hart and your boosters are willing to dig into their pockets.

I do have a very serious question for Vol fans though, are there any of you guys who aren't sold on Gruden as a HC at Tennessee? Personally, I am just not sure that he would be worth what you have to pay to get him. I think you can do more for your money. Not saying he would be a bad hire by any means at all. It would be a very solid hire, but I am just not sold it would be the HR hire many believe it to be.
