Meant to attach this. Good Lou quotes at the end.

Thanks for sharing that, 1stgame. SI always wrote great game stories back in those days and that one had tons of great quotes from coaches and players, the likes of which you rarely see these days.

What I was most impressed with was how Brandon Kay played.

Wish your new head coach would have realized how great Kay can play earlier in the year. Instead he was stubborn and went with the QB he recruited who can't throw a football. Cost us a couple of wins and probably a BCS bowl appearance.

Well....time will tell for us. All coaches make decisions we don't agree with sometimes in regards to the talent on the field. Unfortunately, those decisions affect the outcome of some games. Hey, at least you guys made to a bowl game. Y'all deserved it, good ball team. BTW....that is the first time I've noticed those helmets! I thought they looked great! FWIW

Not at all....Just frusterating to think our previous staff made some of the ill fated decisions they did to rob some deserving players and fans of a bowl game bid. Not sour, just realistic.fingergun

First time we have worn those helmets.

And no, not sour grapes at all. My opinion on Jones was that he was a good coach, and I wanted him to stay here. However, when it became apparent that he was going to leave, I wasn't that disappointed like I was when Kelly and Dantonio left. I felt he was good, but not great and we could replace him rather easily.

I also hope he learned from his mistake on our QB situation. My exwiife is a huge UT fan, so I started following your team while we were together and still pull for your team. The ex and I actually went to the UC/UT game together last year.

I think he will be better than Dooley was for you guys, but I don't know if he will get you back to where you were a decade ago when you were in the NC hunt on a regular basis. I think he gets you to bowl games, wins 7-9 games a year, and that is about where he peaks.

Absolutely no disrepect to Cincy, but I think the stadium issue hurts you guys in recruiting, as well as being in the Big East. You guys have been very fortunate to get some quality recruits over the past 6 years or so, and had the luxury of very solid coaching staffs to groom them, and be team builders. We have lacked that since Fulmer, tho he and his staff were kind of floundering around a bit towards the end of his tenure. That being said, everyone knows the SEC has the most "attention" of recruits. If CBJ and staff can have 9-3 seasons with predominantly 2-3 star recruits in the Big East, They should be able to translate that to 9+ win seasons with 3,4, and 5 star players if coached well in the SEC. Tho nothing is promised, odds are pretty good I think. JMHO On the flip side, a good expansion to the stadium/field house/weight room will be a great addition/recruiting tool for Cincy. Also if an eventual change to a bigger/better conference happens, it will be a plus as well. I think Tuberville may be alot of help with those issues. Just a theory lol.

  • We just completed a practice facility a couple of years ago. About a week ago we announced a stadium renovation that will add a bunch of suites and club seating, things we currently do not have and that will generate some much needed revenue. This things were all done prior to Tuberville, but there is a new excitement and energy in the city since his hiring. I think he will be more of salesman that BJ was, which is something we need as we continue to try and get people to buy in to Cincinnati football. Brian Kelly was that type of salesman, and it really got this city excited. I think Tuberville can do the same thing. Jones never really captured the attention of the city. A lot of that had to do with coming in and bringing all his cheesy sayings, having the team do things like the "fist up defense", practicing chest bumping during practice, etc. and then only winning 4 games his first year. Things like that turn fans off real quick.

Well, I think every coach out there has some "cheesy" things they do, but that imo is far better than being a butthead, and or having a big goose egg for personality. Dooley alienated most of the largest fan base in NCAAF with his endearing personality (sarcasm meant). I am all for anything to get the players/staff unified and fired up! Within reason of course. As I said in previous reply, time will tell the story for CBJ and staff here. We have been starving for a team and staff that are unified and fired up. Hopefully, they will be able to rise to the occassion. Fortunately for us (UT) we have what most say is the best facilities in NCAAF and most of the NFL. Now we need W's in the W column! Good Luck with Tuberville. Strike up the band! drums

  • Yeah we're in a different boat. We don't need a salesman. We need a winner. Get a winner and UT sells itself.

Cheesy sayings will fit right in around here where our fight songs are about drinking liquor out of corn jars and we strive to follow a bunch of 50 year old rules handed down by a guy called The General.
