  • Not true.... Gus cut 6 players and 2 chose to decommit. Auburns staff has recruited a basically new class like Jones staff has.

  • You know, 2011, I have never in my 8 months as a member of 24/7 hit ignore on any poster. But, dude, you're really tempting me...your agenda is seriously getting old.

I will say one thing, dont necessarily agree with GoVols2011, but I would've like to see Pittman retained. He lived in the same neighborhood as a family member of mine and he REALLY wanted to stay here at UT.

He is a fantastic coach and recruiter.

I got down voted because I said I would've like to see Pittman retained and because i said he REALLY wanted to be here.

Do we have Florida fans on this Board?

Why are we down voting people who make mention of people wanting to be at UT?

No, they didn't recruit a "new class" and start from where Jones has. Like it's been said, there was already a top 10 class in place before chizik was fired, and when they brought in Gus they brought in a guy who had (like has been mentioned) already established relationships with a lot of these guys before he left for Ark St. a year ago. There's no way you can say that the Auburn staff and CBJ started on equal ground

  • It's important to note that before the coaching change a lot of these guys were AU commits, all Malzahn (who is a good coach and recruiter) had to do was keep them. Same thing for Dooley his first year because Kiffin had laid the ground work. CBJ had no groundwork laid for him and he had to start completely from scratch, I think he has a done a real good job with that and he is already getting on the 2014 class which is a good start.

I hardly ever dv anyone on this board, but I can not can not sit quietly while someone bashes someone else for working their rear ends off. I am more than satisfied with the effort of CBJ and staff. Will the results come? Time will reveal the answer, but I believe they will. I also notice that after insulting the staff's efforts, that you never even posted again to support your arguement or present any facts that could support it. I understand that is disheartning to miss out on several key prospects, but they can only choose one school. We are not overly appealing to a prospect that wants to win big immediately. In a few years, it will be different.

Explain to me where I bashed anyone, I made the observation that Jones would have been better served to hire more people with southern recruiting ties than he did. I never said he has or has not done the best job he could. Some you just get butt hurt if anybody isn't down on their knees worshiping these coaches. It is pretty pathological.

I think the frustration stems from not acknowledging anything positive and only pointing out the negative.

You have absolutely no way to know he would have done better with different recruiters....

This staff has done as well as anybody could, is that what you are trying to say? Like I said in the OP all you have to do is look at Auburn to see the fallacy in that argument.

  • volsI think most people just want to try and look forward. If you as a coach had had success everywhere you had been with the the coaches you had working with you, you are going to want to bring those people with you. A trust has been developed in each other that goes ABOVE AND BEYOND hiring a bunch of recruiters you don't know and throwing them together into a cohesive team and expecting results. These guys know what Butch wants and what his style of football is and can sell that to recruits. Its called STABILITY and we have had VERY LITTLE of that for a long, long, time. Take away some of the bone head calls, and, frankly, some of the prima dona attitude of Dooley's, and.....well we all know it could have been totally different last year. I think Butch can take this group and improve on last years record. That, my friend, will help recruiting more than anything. The past several years of turmoil, (much more than Auburn has had) have hurt us more than some of us care to admit. Let go of the I want it now attitude and let it happen. If we build it, they will come!

Dude, Auburn won a freakin National Championship THREE years ago!!! It is MUCH easier to recruit by using that then the fact that we went to the SEC Championship and lost FIVE years ago!!! Your argument does not look at the WHOLE picture, only a little of it.... Take a deep breath, a step back, and give a more educated, well thought provoking statement.

Gotta jump in on this one. CBJ was not working from scratch. Yes, the recruiting class was ranked very low...however that was because there were so few players committed. The one thing Dooley in his tenure that he mentioned several times was try to establish relationships with players so when they committed they were more certain than some schools are. Therefore, in December he was never going to have a top 10 class but it would have risen as those relationships were formed and players started taking official visits.
Now, has CBJ done a good job of adding to the class and attacking some big fish?...absolutely!!! But let's not make it sound as if Dooley wasn't fired he had La. Tech's recruiting class coming in next year. That simply isn't the case. Maybe one of the more experienced posters (LWSVOL, SamVolSam, Ghost) or the mods can tell us what an expected Dooley class would have looked like hypothetically.

And once again you ignore the FACT that Auburn's class was ranked in the top 10 when Malzahn took over. Tennessee's class was ranked in the 50s. Now Auburn is looking at a top 15 class, meaning they lost ground, and Tennessee is looking at a Top 20 class, meaning they gained a lot more ground than Auburn lost. So how can you say that Auburn is doing a better job by finishing with a lower-ranked class then when they started? But this does fit your MO - you only hand-pick facts that support your agenda and flat out ignore the rest of the facts because they prove you wrong time and time (and time) again.
