Because he lost to Dooley?

  • I understand not wanting a guy, but not wanting a guy because of one game, just seems silly to me. Hey, by that logic he may be a worse coach than Dooley, but he's a better coach than Frank Beamer, Doug Marrone, James Franklin (2011), and Charlie Strong (2011).

    6 years coaching, 4 years 1st in division and 1 year 2nd. Overall record 23-14. Strong 24-14. Lost to Strong in OT this year and finished tied for 1st with Strong this year. But somehow Strong is a great hire at over 4 million per year and Butch is a terrible hire at much less I'm sure. What?

    I'm not trying to be a jerk, just someone help me understand the we loved the Strong hire, but hate this one, without using the we lost to Dooley argument.

  • This isn't even about Butch Jones to me...

    This is about an administration that did nothing to temper Gruden rumors, then got played by Gundy/Sexton, then couldn't land Charlie Strong prob bc he got played by Gundy/Sexton. Then we end up with Butch Jones? Zero buzz/zero excitement. Tennessee just sent out a letter offering season tickets for $300 and no donation. UNHEARD of 5-10 years ago when the stadium was BIGGER! Its called being Tone Deaf.

  • This adminstration did not fuel the Gruden rumors to start with. If it had been a fact that Gundy had been interested, but was not approached by Hart, the fan base would have gone hysterical.Same with Strong. The $300 offer is what I consider brilliant marketing to add revenue and fill previously unsold seasons tickets.

    Yes I bring up the fact he lost to Dooley bc it just adds to the comedy of what this program has settled to!

    But the blame is on Hart/Cheek...And mangelou hit it on the head! No excitement for this hire! And UT is a great program and deserves a great coach! Don't get me wrong he might come and dominate but right now I don't have that confidence in him!

    And why everyone prefers Strong is bc he has SEC experience, great recruiter, knows what recruiting is like in the SEC!

    To me, we need UT ppl in the right positions! And with where we are at this point, I'd be happy with bringing back Fulmer for 3-5 years and bring Tee back and groom him to be our next coach!

  • Its not about the record. Its about the fact that most likely Strong would have been able to recruit the SEC way better than Butch.
    If he's hired, I'll give him a chance. Just not happy about it.
