Bell tolls for Ohio State

  • Rankings are a decent indicator of future production, but they don't speak to a kids character, work ethic, growth potential, type of competition they played against, etc. So much will be determined when they hit campus. I think we now have a coach that can get the most out our talent.

Secondly, Butch will have a better chance with future classes when he has more time to develop those relationships. He came in way behind with most of these kids. Credit him and his staff for at least getting TN in the game with some of them.

Bell is a good player and would have helped us. Getting a 5 star would look good on paper and in the rankings. But if you watched the 4A state championship game (GA has 6 classifications) you may have questioned the 5 star ranking. He didn't stand out like the huge difference maker everyone is making him out to be. Don't get me wrong, good player, but I saw many 3 and 4 star players I would have put in the same category or better. You also have to factor in level of competition. The competition they played in their division was not really strong other than a few games. It's easy to rack up stats when you are winning 45-10.

So don't get caught up in the stars. (How did Kiffen's top 10 class turn out?) There is not a ton of difference between 3 and 5 stars. They all have the body types. It's about character and how hard they work once they get here. Shoot I saw our high school's 240 pound tackle with no scholarship offers shut down Nkemdiche (#1 Rated DE) because he outworked him.

Personally, I'm proud of this class because they WANT to be Vols.

  • This is crazy. Its almost like he wanted to play for a good team who actually has a shot at winning a NC. If this were 1998 we could pretend that you guys were good, but its not...

  • Vonn Bell is the loser today. What a great young man. He will have great success at Ost but after his career he will be remembered as a great player at OSU. Had he come to Tenn he would have had a great career and he would be a legend. When football is over for Eric Berry he can come to Knox Vegas and open any business he wants because he has legend status and will always be remembered that way in Tennessee. Wish Vonn the best. He has the right attitude now, you can't look back.

OSU has one of the largest alumni bases in the country. We are everywhere and we take care of our own.

The average OSU football player makes over $65,000 starting out once their playing days are done.

We also put guys on tv, Clark Kellogg, Herbstreit, Rob Smith, Chris Spielman, Joey Galloway, etc.

Bell won't have to worry about a job anywhere in America. Especially in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Los Angeles or Florida. Ball so hard these days!

I'm kinda bitter at y'all for taking Ben Martin from Cincy a couple years ago.

SEC schools talking about paying players??? Wow talking about a hypocritical. The money flows in SEC country for players more then anywhere else in the nation.

Next thing we'll start hearing is you guys accusing us oversigning.

If Bell is becomes the player we all think he will, he will be legend in Columbus and will have just as many opportunities on business if not more since Columbus is a much bigger city with more such opportunities. Talk to the Pennaylvanian Eddie George or the Michigander Craig Krensel both of whom are doing quite well. Not having business opportunities in Knoxville is not the end of world.
