Charlie Strong staying at Louisville was not the result of our "academic issues". Were they a concern, yes, but he looked into and was comfortable. Comfortable enough that when Dave Hart left Louisville he was telling people he had his man. He changed his mind it happens, see Graham, Jay. Remember in 2003 the "academic issues" facing the football team were that we had lack academic standards towards athletes.

I do not know what IIRC means. My understanding after talking with people inside UT and outside who know was that Strong told he needed to sleep on it but was all but in. Woke up the next morning and said he was staying. Louisville matched and I think he felt loyalty to them for giving him a shot when nobody else would. Sometimes these work out for best and I very happy with CBJ so far.

I've opined in earlier threads on this issue that W/R/K are not in a position to do investigative reporting on historical academic/athletic interactions at UT. It's just outside the realm of what they are charged to do. I have also strongly suggested that this is ripe material for the News-Sentinel to pursue, as they at least have some staff covering education and general assignment sportswriters. IMO, the finger pointing should go in that direction.
