I think what announcers and writers can do is use the superstition as a foil to be more creative. Too many of them are sanctimonious and lack creativity. Superstitions are not funny to some people and they take it seriously but the majority of people know it has no affect on the game. These writers and announcers take themselves much to seriously and in so doing they are at times boring. They can give the facts of a game and still be creative if they retrain themselves to think a different way. JMO

The lack of any kind of humor is just one reason Kesling doesn't belong in the same conversation as John Ward. Ward entertained, made you laugh and painted a word picture of every play. As one poster said, with Bumbling Bob, you often don't know where the ball is, who carried it, and how much he gained.

UT needs to make a change. It's high time for a new voice.

  • Big difference between Kesling in a booth saying that and the shortstop walking to the mound and telling him that. That's where the superstition comes in - and why when someone has a no-no going, everyone stays away from him and won't talk to him. Doesnt apply to fans\commentators, etc.

Just jinxed the heck out of the Vols and Drew Steckenrider....Vols hit a homerun in the top of the 9th to go up 4-2 and to begin the Bottom of the 9th at Ole Miss, Kesling mentions that Steckenrider hasn't given up a hit in his two innings tonight....Anybody that watches enough baseball knows you never ever want to say something like that...It's bad mojo...Next pitch, base hit by Ole Miss, Next batter, two run homer by Ole Miss game tied at 4-4. Sometimes I question what Kesling is thinking when announcing games and that was one of those times????

Anytime BOOBS is involved with something, it is a F'up. He is another fine example of the "good ole boy network" hiring. Thanks "Tall Guy" for arranging BOOBS' hiring before John Ward retired. Equal opportunity hiring was a joke at UT when "Tall Guy" was AD.
