  • So this isn't related to the earlier incident? This is something new, correct?

  • He was a gamble from a character perspective. Hopefully this ends up being some kind of minor hiccup, but I'm certain I'm not the only one who harbors suspicions about the theft allegations. Some young men just can't get out of their own d@mn way and be successful in life... here's hoping Mr. Bonner isn't one of them.

  • CB is a major concern.......it alone could lose games next year.

  • Dooley already d!cked the team when he kicked Da'Rick off for a harmless drug test. Some elite athletes have problems. If you wanna win you gotta keep kids like this.

If getting the win is the more important than anything else, then maybe you're right. If you think FB is about developing men with tools to be successful, then how you win is just as important as winning.

I wish I had something to add but you said it perfectly. +1

    Amen!

I'm all for second chances, and the younger a kid is, third chances, depending on the offense, but I'm betting that there have been multiple chances given here and ignored.

One thing Dooley was 100% correct about was that sometimes for someone to change, they have to actually have what they love taken from them. Even if it hurt our offense (and it wasn't our O that needed all the help, it was the D) not to have Da'Rick this year, has anyone thought that kicking him off and him going to Tech may turn out to have been the best thing to help him change and shape him as a young man?

Nothing bad about going to TTU, I played against them for four years at MTSU, my brother played at Tech. I think my diploma is on better quality paper though.

GoBigO & DoberVol have already made good points about this. Another I can think of is the need for team discipline. I don't know, but I suspect that superstars like Janzen Jackson & Da'Rick Rogers had many, many second chances. Quite possibly too many. At some point, their teammates get the idea that the better you are, the more you can get away with, and they start resenting it. And other good players who get into trouble expect to be given a ton of second chances. Eventually team discipline breaks down and you have many players routinely in trouble with the law, drugs, and who knows what else.

Dooley's no fool. He knows full well he's in desperate need of good, fast CB's. That likely played a role in his signing Bonner in the first place when other teams backed off from recruiting him. I strongly suspect, then that Bonner did something worthy and maybe more than worthy of being suspended.

  • Florida, UGa and LSU are jus a few teams that have a lot of off the field issues, but they are also competing for SEC titles every year. I'm not condoning an entire team of misfits but have a handful of players that are stellar athletes with character flaws isn't goin to destroy a program or a team. Winning cures all and I'd rather win with a few bad apples than lose with choir boys
