Bourque 'not with us right now'

    JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Tennessee freshman tailback Davante Bourque is not with the team right now because of personal issues, coach Derek Dooley told govols247 on Saturday.

    Ha! As mentioned in the story, he said that Tuesday, so that was just rehashing what Dooley had said about Bourque's injury at the time after he sat out Tuesday's practice.

  • I for one hope the young man is ok health wise .. It seems he is good standing with DD and his folks knows what is happing with him . How does his peers feel about him not being with them? This is a time to bond.

  • I think he will redshirt or greyshit, was a late summer enrollee and talent he has but mentaly I dont know. I hope im wrong but usualy with this type situation it's better for both parties to take a step back and reavaluate whats best for both.

    kid is homesick. lots of freshmen get homesick. # 1 issue for coaching staffs with freshmen every year. constantly having to call Mom/Dad and get kids calmed down. this high tailed back to girl and baby..

  • Yep had first hand experience with the home sick thing with my son. Phone calls every 30 minutes, e-mail out the wazoo. After going in person and say this was the schol you wan ted, either get your a-- in there and start doing what they recurited U for or pack your things and lets go home. That was the end of it. Still got phone calls each day after practice, but it was about practice and what he had done good or what he got chewed on for a while. Never heard another complaint about wanting to come home for a weekend, etc. Stayed 4 years, summer semester included and he was fine. If momand Dad would quit Babying them they would be OK. Was Brown and Oku problem and Mom and Dad said come on back home. Know what happened to Brown, but never heard anymore about Oku. Can one of the Staffers comment on his where abouts, did he play anymore FB, etc? Thanks

  • Maybe he hurt his neck and mom got a little unsure about him playing football? Thats a pretty big issue these days in the sport...

  • When u think about what A LOT of these 18 year olds go thru in their first year of SEC Tennessee football, it's not hard to realize the challenges Dooleys's had molding these kids into young men MATURE enough to deal with ALL the real issues of playing at a high level. And he's gone thru 2 years of this..
    Now finally he has a team made up of his first class who are becoming upper classmen and next year the same. IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE and you can hear it in Dooley this year when he describes the practices.
