Correct. Maholm has pitched really well lately, and he's not a bad pitcher overall, so seems like a solid pickup for the Braves. And Reed Johnson is a good guy to have as a fourth outfielder. But I didn't see what the Braves gave up, so I can't say for sure that it's a great deal.

However, being a Braves fan I think the last guy that we got in a trade during the season that actually worked out was Fred McGriff way back in 1993? That's the only memorable trade for me. I read somewhere that the Braves went 51-19 that season after picking up The Crime Dog. I was going to camp at McCallie and saw him play in his second game as a Brave against the Cardinals. That happened to be the game the day after the Fulton County Stadium Press Box fire.

My point was that it's been a while since anything has worked out for the Braves like it did when they got McGriff. There have been other guys that have done some things, but none have been as important as the McGriff deal was for the organization.
