Who is a slam dunk that is attainable? Personally I want Greg Roman.

Maybe Ken Sparks. He is probably afforable.

  • I'd honestly rather hire someone who is part of the family. I'm not saying it's the only way to go, but it would be great. It doesn't have to be a UT grad, but it would be awesome to have someone who is connected somehow. I don't know if Graham can ever be an SEC head coach. He'd probably need to be a coordinator first. What if Cutcliffe were to come in and groom him to be the next head coach, whether it's five years down the road or maybe ten years?

Just makes too much sense. We can't change back to a 4'3 defense now. If we retain Dooley he's not gonna be able to get a top notch DC and recruiting will suffer.

Hire Smart he fixes the 3'4. He could even call defensive plays and retain Sunseri. Theres no arguing Sal and Smart are great recruiters.

If your reasoning is to stay in a 3-4, why not go get Dom Capers who used to coach at UT? NFL ties and heck of a DC.

I love the Big Orange as much as the next guy, but why would Capers leave the Packers to come to Tennessee?

"Old School"! A strong defense wins championships!

  • Smart is just riding Saban's coattails. Saban works with defense all week and helps with game plan, and makes the important calls not Kirby Smart

  • I am a bama fan and no doubt Kirby Smart is going to be a head coach somewhere. I think given time and the right place he will do a good job, but tn as of now is not the time or place for a 36 year old head coach. Saban looses coaches every year seems like you never know there gone sure they are good coaches but in the end as long as he stays it seems they never miss a beat.Just my thought if you cant get a big name coach that you want i think it would be better to fire Sal and try it one more year with dooley. If you get someboby like smart he doesnt win in 2 years then it will be worse than it is now. I do think there needs to be changes ,but if there is Hart better make the correct call or it wont be just a coach yall are looking for. Good luck it is a lot more fun when tn is good.

Recruits nowadays will play for anyone who can get them to the league and be successful. Capers knows what it takes. He's been in the league 27 years.

I doubt he would. He's in his 60s too I believe. UT will probably want a younger coach.

Valid points +1 for stopping by.

  • Tennessee is too good of a football job to risk putting in the hands of anyone but someone who has already been successful as a head coach.

+1 and emphasis on successful....and that doesn't mean "some convoluted justification/explanation about how injuries and lack of initial depth and talent prevented said coach from winning more games in a lessor conference, but their organizational and rebuilding skills shined through, so overlook the losing record and lack of success as a defensive or offensive coordinator, his dad can coach, cat ate my homework, dog ate the cat," successful coach.

  • What about Frank Solich at OHIO? He had a great record at Nebraska (for an unrealistic fan base - NE still has not recovered from his firing) . He has done a great job at Ohio (darn near beat UT in Knoxville - beat Penn State this year). Why not try something different and not wait in line behind AL, GA, and SC for the same type of players? Peterman is mobile enough to run that offense - which chews up game clock (our pathetic defense needs this). Solich is a proven winner at a big school and a mid-major (116-60 career record - 58–19 at NE) . Could make as much sense as any other realistic name I have heard.

  • No such thing as a slam dunk ! There are no guarantee's with humans. Why would Strong leave he is sure to get a major extension . Kirby Smart another promising assistant with no guarantee. Jon Gruden is a pipe dream . If we do fire Dooley we will not win next year or the year after then we are right back in the same position as we are now. The " win now ' philosophy does not build programs nor as it ever all it does create uncertainty and instability .
