  • I'm totally for anything that our Coach can do that will shed a postive light on UT. Rebuilding relationships meets that criteria.

BUTCH IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. GO VOLS!

Saban won what, 6-7 games his first year at Bama, including a loss to one of the LA schools for the blind?

Exactly right Saban was like 6-6 and evey Alabama fan I knew thought they should fire him after the first year it was ridculous. Saban taught disclipine and toughness and I think that is the difference. Dooley talked about disclipine and toughness but I never really saw our team play with it consistentally. I think CBJ will be able to instill that in Tennessee again and at the very least he has more expereince doing so.

  • People said Dooley "got it" when he started the VFL program and that Kiffin "got it" when we signed Bryce Brown. Trust me: you won't know whether Butch Jones is a good coach until 2 full seasons have played out - maybe even 3. I think he will be but I also thought Dooley would be too.

Yes but in year 1 Saban beat a ranked team and won their bowl game. I knew many Bama fans who thought Saban ought be given another year to clean up the mess. In year 2 Saban went 12-0 before losing in the SEC Championship game. So it was ridiculous to fire Saban after Year 1 but I think with most coaches you know by the end of year 2. I am willing to give CBJ 3 full years. I think he will do well.

Actually when Dooley started the VFL program, I was thinking that's an innovative idea and when Bryce Brown committed I was thinking Lane Kiffin can recruit, his wife must somehow be involved…

If we fire another coach after three years, we will never get another decent coach at Tennessee. Jones needs at least five years, and Tennessees fans need to be a lot more patient.

Do you think that Dooley deserved more time?

Serious question, because I truly supported him until about the 5th long run through our defense without anybody touching the RB. He either needed to change the scheme or change the coach at that point, because it was clear to everyone except him that Sal that our defense wasn't going to cut it.

I fully support Butch, but Butch hasn't coached a game. So if he can't see adjustments that need to be made in his 3rd season and we continue to get beat like a drum then why should we keep a coach like that?

We can argue stabilty, other programs have found stability within 3 years so why should this be any different?

Hopefully this is a mute question and Butch coaches us to 10 wins starting in 2013. :)

No, Dooley had failed. I started to wane at Mississippi State and I was finished when he ran out the clock against Missouri.

But we can't have a quick trigger finger again short term. Coaching changes inevitably set you back a year or two in a rebuild. See examples at Alabama and Georgia.

I never felt Dooley would be successful. BUT...I supported and hoped he would from start to finish. I never downed him, unless it was regarding his attitude, lack of fan interaction, and communication. Never once did I see the fire in him as CBJ shows. This is a different ball game all together. Plenty of time to make judgement on CBJ & staff. I feel CBJ will be very successful here and do a lot for the program.

Now wait just a freakin minute! The past is "very" important to the future! We just got rid of a coach that shut out 2/3 of the former players. You don't think these guys sell the program to the "good"players in the states they live in? Get your head out of whatever dark place you have it in, and think about what you just said for a minute, and I think you'll see just how important staying tied to your past really is.
