Butch Jones Attendance

  • So, anyone know exactly how many basketball games Dooley made it to in his 3 years at Tennessee? Because I'm pretty sure it was a big fat 0.

It's a little gesture, but CBJ truly wants to be here, and that was expressed by his presence tonight. Hope the support for other teams continues. Definitely a breath of fresh air!

  • Dooley came to several games over his three years. I used to see him and his kids there a lot.

As jacvol12 said, Dooley went to basketball games all the time — not 10 games a year or anything, but at least a few every year.

I know people want to make it seem more clear-cut that Dooley was awful, but many of the things people are saying about him now are revisionist history at best and flat-out lies at worst. He didn't succeed as a coach, but he wasn't as terrible in every aspect of the job as most people are making him out to be. He's not at UT anymore. Doesn't that say enough?

    Ryan,

The same thing happened when Kiffin bailed in the middle of the night for USCw. About the only real revelation about Dooley's tenure post-firing was the TFP article about how he and his staff had failed to maintain ties with HS coaches in the Chattanooga area. The tensions between him and the former lettermen was something that was known about, but never really discussed in any detail beyond his press conference where he said he wanted them to call him first. The bottom line for many people that follow the Vols is that despite the improvements he made off the field (S&C, the VFL program, the lower number of off-field issues, rebuilding a depleted roster), the on-field problems overshadowed much of the work he did to shore up the foundations of the program. The roster that Jones inherits is better than the one Dooley took over from Kiffin, and hopefully that will translate into wins down the road.

The only thing I noticed was that, at all the games I saw, Dooley would leave at halftime. Not a knock on him, because I'm sure he had more important things to do, but CBJ did stay for this entire game.

  • People need to lay off Dooley.......he loved UT. He just didnt win the 2-4 games he need to. He worked hard for UT. I am sure he wished he had more time in Jan 2010 to hire a staff and make it more like his 2nd staff minus Sal of course. He just flat out was hired at a poor time and ya.....lost a few too many games in a tough rebuild.

Hope Jones recruits and has the staff to get it done.
