  • The really big question I have is that he has come in and sustained all of Kelly's work at Central and Cincy...can he build though?

Derek Dooley wanted to be here and was absolutely beside himself that we offered him the job. Fell to his knees and prayed I'm sure.

We see how that worked out.

I'm not saying No to Butch yet, just saying I don't really care if they are dieing to be here or not.

The Dooley/Jones comparison does not work at all. The only similarity between the two is they want the job. Coaching performance is not similar at all.

Jones has a proven body of work as a head coach that Dooley lacked. So that comparison doesn't fly.

  • I have no problem with Jones and several people I respect think he is the steal in this whole deal. One of those is Chris Mortensen. I am ready to get him in here and hire a staff that can coach and recruit. From what I have heard he really inspires his guys. That's the type person who can recruit and close those his staff brings. We need a closer not a salesman. JMO

Completely unfair comparison. Jones has been a winner at every level, Dooley had not.

  • For those people who have bashed Jones for the loss to Tennessee last year, just remember that he led the Bearcats to a win over Vandy in their bowl game last season - in Memphis.

You know tnbear I respect your opinion a lot and you are correct, this man is young and full of energy and knows offense. I just hope he brings a DC that can bring our D back from heck. The kids on D aren't that bad I just think they lacked coaching in some areas and the leader of the D really was horrible and I am talking about Sal. Your thoughts sir

I thonk a lot of teams would have lost to Dooley last year if they had to face us with a healthy Hunter and Bray. They ran intous at the worst possible time. Probqbly would've been a different story if they played us in November. The more and more I read, I lke this guy.

In also like him more and more, he may not be the big splash name but I feel he will do better than most think he will especially in recruiting. On another topic Jersey Vol do you see the hockey lockout ending anytime soon or is it another lost year in your opinion. I started watching hockey when Gretzky played for the Oilers and the had those battles with the Islanders in the early 80's with Mike Bossy

I agree. I think he's going to be a very good one. UT may be skeptical today, much like ND was three years ago with Kelly, but I firmly believe it will work out for the best.

Winning games and titles is more important than a "name."

I've got a feeling they'll settle at some point and we'll have a shortened season. it's a shame because every time the sport gains some momentum, they run into a strike or a lockout. I've been a Rangers fan since I was a little kid and myfavorite rivalry was the Rangers/Islanders of the late 70's and early 80's. I was in high school and we had to sneak into bars to see the Isles home playoff games on SportsChannel. Never liked the Isles or the Devils

Agreed. And I don't remember an SEC school, a Big 10 school and a Pac-12 school trying to hire Dooley while he waited for UT to go through four higher-profile coaches to get to him.
