Butch Jones wants to be here

  • He wants to be here, he is more of a people person (and player person) than Dooley, and he will likely recruit better than what we had. He will relate better to his coaching staff also. He turned down Kentucky, Colorado, and probably some other schools to come here; waiting for us to work our way down to him.

It's not his fault the administration handled this hire so poorly. The "dump truck full of cash" theory was unsuccessful.
Time for all the Vol faithful to get behind him.

  • Great attitude UTF! I understand the concern of some fans, but I say we could have done a lot worse. I hope CBJ is successful here for a very long time.

This part of your post is intriguing to me. I was surprised when Dooley left how little reaction there was from the players and what we did hear was subtly negative about his relationships with players & coaches. If you contrast that with a lot of what you heard from recruits about loving Dooley it sure does seem like he had a planned Jekyl/Hyde personality showing the wonderful side when he was trying to get you here then once he got you, OUCH!

Not only has he never been a coach in the SEC, coordinator, position coach, grad assistant, he has never had a coaching job in the South. Recruiting down South from Cinci to get a few players here and there isn't the same. I'm not saying the guy won't work out, but his recruiting is a huge question mark right now. Let's slow down and see what happens.

His staff will have a lot to do with how he recruits. I'm sure he's smart enough to know that.

  • I kinda feel like the kid who made out his Christmas list and had that one special present he really wanted. A shiney new red bike with all the bells and whistles. Christmas morning comes along and I jump outta bed & run to the tree. I see a bike right there. Already I'm thinking of what I can do on this great piece of machinery. In my mind I'm jumping hills, riding trails, and doing wheelies down the street. Now that I'm right beside it, I see that Santa saw fit to bring me a shiney red bike with training wheels. WHAT?? How can this be? What was Santa thinking? All the while I just need to get on the bike and ride it a little and I soon realize that I can just take the training wheels off. Now I have the bike I was wanting in the first place. So I'm going to let our new coach get his staff in place, see how this recruiting class finishes out, and wait to see how he gets this team ready. I hope by game time I'll be looking at the bike that I always wanted and not the one with training wheels!!
