Butch needs to sell serious PT to Taylor and Phillips for 2014+

  • IF we lose the 2 of them in a few weeks via transfer we could easily be heading into 2014 with the following DTs bc we lose in the next 12 months McCullers (maybe in a few weeks), Sentimore, Couch and Hood......

    Clark- which I have seen nothing from yet to make me feel confident he could really contribute
    Carson- same as above
    Saulsberry- which IMO is a tweener btw SDE and DT

    I hope Butch sees this and not only makes EE juco DTBradley a priority (which appears to be the case) but also 2 more DTs in this class a must.

  • Taylor is similar ot Sauls IMO that he is a tweener. Hope he can play SDE or IMO he is a DT with another year in the weight room. But I think he is a bit of a risk to head south with Phillips but hopefully the new staff can convince him + maybe he is back on track.

    let me ask something does lanier come back?i can see dooley being the reason he left
    ive asked a couple times about lanier and no 1 seems to know or least reply back about him

    Wes and Ryan have said multiple times they do not expect Lanier to be back.

    He is the poster child for our mess of academics vs athletics........JMO Lanier should go public if he was truly ok at all other SEC schools....maybe class action lawsuit. Seems like something could be done if he was clear to play by the SEC and NCAA and a school went against both. This is a 20 year old kid and its a stinking sport that he was "begged" (recruited) to come play by the same school that may of screwed him over. IF its true.......I would not blame him even though it might hurt UT from a PR standpoint but it might help fix the issue too. C- not counting is a joke.

  • Back to Phillips......some think he would be a very good OT too.......if we dont land Skipper and Posey does have footwork issues like some have said..........he could start in 2014 at either DT or OT. Not sure he couldnt beat out Bullard or ? at RT if he worked hard for 2013 if James goes pro.

    It had nothing to do with Dooley. He was recruited by Dooley and was our starting CB under him. This was about UT academics not allowing him to play bc of a C- most have said. Many say he would have played at Vandy or FL or any other SEC school.

    If that's true that is ridiculous and hasn't hart said that this year they are going to be making changes to where kids can get in ?

    i uinderstand what your saying..let me ask something was the same academics rule was in place when fulmer was our coach? this where im getting lost ..so cheek comes in and raise's the academic grades?

    for football player's to be able to play.so if there grade fall below c+ just saying then there kicked off the team?
    out side of the football at ut ..im lost on all the academics part..which i could call family to find out
    buts its easier for me to ask here..if hart does change this then it looks like to me lanier could come back
    next season..if not why wouldnt he just transfer to another sec school?
    only reason i brought dooley up was after he got fired and starting hearing how he was just put the thought of dooley kicking him off the team.

  • It is my understanding it happened late in Fulmers tenure. It has nothing to do with Dooley or Fulmer. It has to do with a dumb policy by those not in tune with athletics that have been running UT for 4+ years.

    Hart is trying to change it........we will see how fast he can or if he can along with everything else that was messed up from the Gov Bredesen (sp?) appointees.

    JMO IF Lanier is still at UT there is a very small chance.....it could be just timing on when he could of transferred and where.

    got ya...i agreee they need to change its bad when vandy is out recruiting us...maybe hart and jones can change this around..is cheek the 1 they need to get it changed?
