  • I read on ESPN that Hue Jackson and Brian Schottenheimer were the only known candidates for the Rams OC job. Anything could change though.

seen same thing a few other sites as well...just becasue Chaney once coached at the Rams I think his name got attached to potential OC. I think he stays at UT and I hope that is the case.

  • Don't believe so according to sports show in StL. They are saying all signs point to Brian Schottenheimer, here is todays sports story from the post dispatch. sorry that it is a bit long with some of the other items but DC is hired apparantly and they are saying Brian is the one CJF wants to run the O.

naw....understand we are all nervous about coaches leaving. however, I don't think he goes to QB job even in the NFL. he is way past that (even prior to coming to UT) level. I believe things would have to be real bad in K-town for him to do that. and I am not buying any of that stuff going 'round that is real unhappy right now. I think that is all bogus.

we need him and i think this year his presence shows up on the field.

  • If anything, we need to keep Chaney for at least another season. The offense will be fine. Injuries, lack of depth & lack of experience caused the results for our offensive woes. This season with everyone healthy, more comfortable with the plays and much more experience, we will see a very explosive offensive. And now with CSS as the DC, our defense will be much more physical and aggressive. 2012 will be great.

  • I agree with you on this fact. With the defense being more aggresive that will allow our offense more chances to score.. and with all the new youth and speed.. Hunter coming back is a key!! tennesseekoolaid

We could always hire Mike Martz...he would be perfect. WIth our inability to run Martz would be like a kid in the candy store throwing the ball all around lol

  • I do not believe Chaney's offense is suited for the SEC, but I think we're stuck with him. JMO.

You're right. Chaney's offense really struggled last season when everyone was healthy. sarcasm

  • I like Jim Chaney and I hope he stays mainly because I don't want Bray and the boys to be forced to learn a new offensive system as they enter the prime of their careers. It really doesn't matter what system they are in or who is calling plays when you have players like we have. If Chaney stays, sit back and enjoy the show because our players will be playing fast, instinctual football which will allow their athletic abilities to take over and when that happens I don't think there's anyone that can stop them.

That being said, Bray and the boys won't be here forever and we got a glimpse of what that might look like when Bray and Hunter were injured. I'm all for supporting Chaney and defending him to a certain extent but not to the point where I ignore our offensive struggles while Hunter was hurt. Georgia didn't have much of a problem stopping our offense with Bray fully healthy. I get that losing Hunter is a huge loss but if, as an OC, you rely on a player like Hunter to make your offense go, you're offense isn't going to go very often because Hunter is a once in a decade type talent.

I'm not saying this to point fingers at Chaney. I don't know who is or was to blame for our offensive woes but we returned a 1,000 yard rusher and our entire OL and regressed in the run game. That in itself is enough to keep me from being all-in on the Chaney train. Again, I'm not saying it's Chaney's fault. There is plenty of areas that could have been to blame like not having a RB coach or maybe Hiestand was doing a bad job. I don't know the answer but I'm also not going to act like I'm not a little skeptical of Chaney's abilities as OC. He still has something to prove in my mind and I'm sorry but I need to see him run a productive offense without Drew Brees at QB and without Bray throwing to maybe the best WR duo in school history before I view him as a great OC. More importantly, I need to see him run an offense that can win a game on the ground. That doesn't mean I think Chaney can't do that or that I think he's an awful OC. I just think there's good reason to be skeptical.

Not 100% on this but when CJC was with the Rams prior to the Vols he was a TE coach. So a QB coach is not out of the question. Sam Bradford is a Ram, and CJC has some connections with the Rams.

I don't believe he is in the mix based on the talk around STL but still not a big stretch for him to be on the NFL staff.
