Charlie Strong

  • If Strong said in the past that he wants to coach in the SEC, he lied. Tennessee was the perfect opportunity for him to do that. Take a look at the coaching landscape in the SEC and tell me a better chance. He won't get this kind of opportunity for a very long time, if ever.

  • Sorry but Coach Strong has a better job right now. Go ahead rip in to me but you guys know Louisville job is better than Tennessee job at this moment. Louisville is gonna be loaded next year and that is why Charlie could not walk away. We have best Quaterback in country in Teddy Bridgewater. Before you guys rip in to me I love Tennessee football and hate for you guys where program is all because dick head Lane Kiffin screwed you guys over. Good luck on search and pulling for you guys to find away to get Gruden.

You can't seriously compare UL to UT in football. Charlie as probably scared he could not succeed in the big boy league. Its much easier in acc and big east than here. This shows me he doesn't have what it takes to coach in this league. In the end, probably good that he stayed there. Good luck over in the irrelevant acc.

  • I think it is funny that when strong was a candidate to be your guys next coach all you could do is praise him, and now that he turned the job down you want to start in on he can't make it in the SEC. Good luck on your future and I hope someday soon Tennessee football can be restored to what it use to be.

No bitterness here, but this conversation is just pointless.

You guys have a good coach. Enjoy him while he's there.

  • Strong represents himself, right? I said earlier today, if you represent yourself you have a fool for a lawyer. I guess we know one reason it has turned out this way. And, yes we have a right to be bitter, so let us vent. If our leadership were better prepared, this probably would never have happened. Surely, Hart saw Dooley's end coming as early as last year and at the latest a few games into this season. We have had all this time to prepare and search for a new coach and only to end up being turned down at least three maybe more times already. When are we going to learn to hire TN people for positions such as A.D., etc?

Just because Strong didn't choose Tennessee doesn't mean he lied about wanting to coach in the SEC. He was my #1 choice from the beginning of the search. My thoughts on him didn't change just because he chose to stay where he is and honor his word. He's got a good situation at Louisville. When things are good at home, it takes a lot to make a change.

  • Not saying UofL is better than UT historically. You guys are a great program. Saying at this moment we are. I said I feel for you guys and you would not be in this mess if not for Lane. Guys like Lane Kiffin and John Calimari should be suspended from coaching for f'ing programs up and then bolting.

    Cards78

  • And Gundy said no. Not only did the sorry BE coach not want it neither did the sorry big 12. ACC Fedora will be next to say no. You'll be down to three conferences saying no to your tradition. Talk about the past as if its the present. No Lousville isn't relevant in football and we can't compete with money. I guess Haslam gave three shits about your program that 15 mil wasn't good enough. UT is in such shambles right now over two terrible hires. Maybe at some point you have to look at your AD and see where the problem lies.

  • Lots of hurt feelings tonight and I think some bruised pride, but don't lose faith yet. I would be proud to have Fulmer as our leader, but I'm not sure he should shoulder this burden. Asking CPF back would definitely right a wrong from a few years ago, but isn't a long term solution. The one thing I do know, is that we can't rush to a decision or else we'll end up with Dooley 2.0. I wish I knew who we should go after, but I am at a loss. I think I'm gonna just sit back and watch the show for a while. Every time I think I know something, I learn that I don't.

Hey GOVOLS011............nice dig but take a real good look in the mirror. You are right that we played in a weaker conference and with the move to the ACC will still play in a weaker but respectable conference. Yea your stadium holds 100K but we house 50K and play in a state of the art stadium with room to grow. But take a look in the mirror...........28-34 over the last 5 years. 12-28 in the SEC over the last 5 years in the SEC. 2-14 over the last 2-years in the SEC...........doesn't look like the "Top 5 Football Coaching Destination" that many of the die hard UT fans want to throw in the face of Card Nation. You've been turned down by a number of coaches this time around.........you guys are starting to look more like the next door mat of the SEC.

You can't pay him more money than us..............you can't give hive an easier rode to a potential National Championship game..........you can't give him a NICER stadium.......you can't give his family a better community to grow up in...............UT doesn't have the Athletic Department that UL has (which is evident).............on and on and on.

That doesn't seem delusional to me...............

Here is where I could agree with some of your points: UL may be thought to be a better job, I would say easier. In the ACC, yet another BB Conf, the competition to get to get 6 wins and to a BCS Bowl is much easier than in the SEC. When you look at it from that standpoint you may say it is a better job.

Teddy B, the best QB in the nation, by whose measure other than UL fans?

Not all of us praised him. He is a journeyman SEC assistant whose previous employers wouldn't even take his phone calls when they had HC openings. I was happy as hell when he turned down the job and can't quit laughing at Louisville for grossly overpaying for him. Even if Louisville goes undefeated they will never make the playoff because strength of schedule will kill them. Good luck in the ACC - Virginia Tech and NC State are coming to the SEC, Georgia Tech is going to the Big 10, Florida State is going to the Big 12. I guess Memphis and Tulane and Eastern Carolina are available to join the ACC. Oh by the way, I heard the other day that Notre Dame is already making noises about canceling it's ACC agreement.

I can't blame Strong for staying, he is getting over $4 million a year to coach against Duke and Wake Forrest rather than Alabama, Florida, Georgia and LSU. What a joke.

  • No details of the contract are public, so you cant say someone is overpaid when we dont know what he is paid. He got all of his assistants a raise, which I admit is a refreshing show of support.

As for Teddy, ESPN has him at #3 QB this year as a true Soph. I like the guy, best to me, it's all subjective.

That being said, its been a pleasure talking to some of you. I dont want to overstay my welcome.

I would rather have Strong than Jones. You guys have a great coach and a great school. Still you are wrong. UT can and could offer him more money than Louisville- offered Gruden more than Saban. It would have been stupid for us to offer Strong that much money. I'm not sure what you mean by "nicer" stadium. If you mean "newer," its my understanding that one of our alum has offered to build one off campus. However, we like our tradition rich stadium that sits on campus, just like most of the teams that were relevant before Howard Schellenberger was born. I've been to Louisville, great city, but not sure why you think Louisville is a better family city to grow up in. I like your AD, but as disappointed as I am with the search, I don't think ours did a bad job. I doubt UL would even get Gruden, Gundy, or Fisher to even address a rumor they were interested, much less actually talk to your AD or big money people about the job. So UT got turned down by Stoops, Gruden, Gundy, Fisher, and Strong and ended up with the Big East coach of the Year, a guy who's beaten your 4.1 mil coach 2 out of the last three years. Strong stayed, IMO, because if Hart did anything wrong, he strung Strong along, and Strong has pride and Louisville ain't Cinci and you guys offered to pay him like an SEC coach and gave him security. Good for you and him. He deserved it for all the years folks denied him jobs for ignorant reasons. I wish he was here and prior to being slow played, so did he. Tennessee football will be fine. It's history of relevancy pre-dates 1985.

You've been spouting this for two weeks. There is alot of good reporting that sugests its possible that he wasn't considered by his previous employers due to concerns about things that had nothing to do with football and everything to do with ignorance.

Why does it matter that he gets paid more to play Duke/WF than SEC schools? Why is it a joke? SEC fans are ate up with the dumba$$. Last time I checked Louisville can still win their conference and play in a BCS game or BCSNC game just like every other major conference. And guess what??? They can possibly win those games too! Not sure I have ever seen anything like it, the fan bases that beat the"SEC drum" the loudest, always come from the bottom feeders of the SEC. Go figure.
