Coach Dooley

  • gborasnic said...

We r soon to forget how badly da rick rogers affected our team at the end of the year that is a Dooley recruit that cost us a game because Dooley did not have the balls to lead the team

Yet, he had the balls to take on a disaster of a job that high profile coaches were running from with haste.
I'm not saying CDD is the savior (I hope he is), but the man has made huge strides for this program. It is impossible to judge his first couple of years, without taking the 2 years before his arrival into context. We lost to Kentucky. Fact. Fulmer lost to Memphis (with far superior talent !!!!!....ie Peyton Manning). Fact.
Questioning his testicular fortitude because of a pre-Madonna, immature, sensitive teenager (that was not his recruit) is crazy. Give it time.

We need to give CDD a 2 yr. extension with all the new assistants. Other schools are hammering us over "Dooley won't be there". Lets try some stability for a change---think Virginia Tech! I feel if we do this, the fan base will pull together and we will get more 4 and 5 star players to sign.

    Thanks for posting, volmd!

Feel free to chime in more often and join the discussion. Excellent first post IMO.

  • Dooley was there when he signed and has coached him for 2u years seems like to me he should be able to control this kids attitude from affecting the whole team

So gborasnic I guess you must have some good insight on the program since you seem to know so much about who's attitude affects the team and loses games for us. Can you tell us who is causeing problems this spring and who has the biggest balls?

+1 My friend very well put. I hope Coach Dooley is here for a long time.

+ 1 Don't know why someone would downvote that comment.

That does not not make Da'Rick his recruit. Da'Rick is the epitome of the Kiffin era.
Regardless, this topic is moot until the end of next season. Go Vols and believe.

  • I appreciate that he appears to be a man of character. Teams learn more than football from great coaches, and I am hoping that this team will learn and develop and win as well.

Dooley is the one who offered the package deal to him and Nance.

True. Yet, I don't believe that makes him a "Dooley guy".
Regardless, I hope Da'Rick figures it out and plays for the team.

  • Da'rick was probably going to Uga until Dooley got here and offered his best friend,so I think that makes him a dooley guy,100%.

I thought it was an evident fact that da ricks attitude was quite a problem last year there has been 3 or 4 articles. Just on this site not including the other sites and newspapers o yeah and the seniors from last year. The bottom line about him being a lane or Dooley recruit doesn't matter lane never coached him Dooley has ur missing the point. Leadership and coaching ability is lacking in my personal opinion and it is evident... Sry but the fact support it.

Real funny you have to be immature to try and debate an opinion . Grow up.

  • I used to think Dooley would have four years regardless of what happens in order to give him time to right the ship. I now believe this is a make or break year for him. There is too much money at stake for him to have a mediocre season - in other words athletic department revenue from ticket sales, licensed merchandise sales, etc. and the number and amount of donations are directly tied to the success of the football team. Money drives college football.

I have been behind Dooley from the start and I remain that way. However, I am also a realist as there have been several incidents that have raised caution flags to me - namely the debacle at LSU, the loss to Kentucky and the recent staff turnover. Face it guys, the SEC is big boy football. It's not a league where you should have to learn on the job and you are only as good as your last win. Football is the premier sport in college athletics and at Tennessee - I suspect Dave Hart will not have much patience for a subpar record.

I agree that DaRick needs to get his head on straight, but I don't think he's bullying Dooley as you suggested.

  • It's about time there is a positive thread about Coach Dooley. All I read and hear is hatred about the man. Even former players on the radio bash the Coach because he doesn't compare to Fulmer.Dooley is his own man and I hope he gets it done to shutup the naysayers. Good thread fellas. Just because we support Dooley doesn't make us sheep it makes us fans.

A lot of times we forget that this is a learning experience for Dooley as well as the players. He's never been in this situation before where he's been the head guy at such a high level. I'm not sure what I would have done when your two best playmakers are hurt, the level of competition is really high, and your only other playmaker has a big head

Sure he let some people get out of hand. To me it sounds like he's admitted that, learned from it, and made some adjustments this year. Of course, I have no personal knowledge of this, just what I read on this site.

Interesting debate on whether D.R. is a Dooley guy or not. I for one am very glad he's on our team and not UF, GA, etc. I think he'll eventually get his head on straight and be a team asset. But if he doesn't, he's still an elite player. I'll take him.

I would agree with u but regardless of the situation that he walked into he knew what it was before he took the job if he thought he possibly couldn't turn the program around he shouldn't have taken the job.... it is hard for me to take it easy on a guy that gets paid millons. When u pay someone that much money they better b able to do it all at any job for that matter
