Coach Hating Kills Recruiting

  • Myrickle said...

You know what really kills recruiting? Dooley is an average (at best) recruiter who lets his assistants do most of the work. Couple this with an inability to win games and you are going nowhere fast. It isn't the fans' fault that the Head Coach has done a subpar job.

Sentimore disagrees... “It was hard to pick Tennessee, but Coach Dooley was down-to-earth, also. He’s kind of a laid-back coach, and I really kind of like that about him, so I think it helped in the recruiting process because I ain’t going to lie to you: I was about to go to another school. But Dooley, he’s a good recruiter. He’s one of the reasons why I also came here.”

Tennessee Vols' Darrington Sentimore: 'I want to beat Saban'

Tennessee defensive lineman Darrington Sentimore, who previously played at Alabama, admits hes excited to play against his former team Saturday night at Neyland Stadium.

if anything we are all guilty of building this team up and thinking we could win the east,

I think you make a good point that most of us seriously overdosed on orange KoolAid, especially after the great showing against NC State, and began to expect too much. Frankly, at this point, the team is just about where most of us thought it would be. Maybe one win lower, yes. But who expected MSU to be ranked and undefeated? Who really believed Florida was going to be as good as they are?

We can still win seven, and if good things should happen, even eight. That's real progress, and even the losses to these ranked teams have been competitive, four quarter losses.

  • Agree 100% with the OP. People should ask themselves, "Can what I say in this post POSSIBLY hurt the program?" If the answer yes, keep it to yourself.

  • Great quote RockyTopATL it does matter to parents and recruits. This has to stop or we will lose or never get a chance to have certain players as VOLS. Keep up the good work.

OK, guys. The latest Wednesday with Wes thread strongly supports something I have believed for a long time. This constant Dooley bashing, when is he going to get fired ish, who's our next coach BS, how hot is Dooley's seat crap, does nothing but hurt recruiting and damage the program and its future.

You are here because you are a recruiting freak, right? You want UT in the Top 10, right? So why do you rip Dooley on the forum recruiting freaks live on? By the way, recruiting freaks include recruits and parents of recruits. Before you deny that, I'll point out that MZTERRY (mother of Jason Croom) posted often here. I got a PM one day from another recruit's father who was concerned about a post. THEY ARE ALL OVER THIS SITE! Just by being here, you are a key spokesperson for the University of Tennessee and your words are read, dissected, and taken into account by decisionmakers. Definition: recruits and their parents.

Hopefully, you guys respect Wes. He is the senior writer here, the bearded wonder, the One With Sources, the guy we listen to. Here is what he said on the subject in the above mentioned WWW Thread:

"Not sure how much it hurts, but I know it doesn't help. Kids are sent emails and texts of the things UT fans say about players on message boards and stuff."

Truly a quote for the ages. Profound.

In his very next post, he elaborated:

"To add to the answer above, I don't know how I — as a recruit or the father of a recruit right now — could ever sign or suggest that my kid sign with a place as vitriolic and hostile as the situation as UT at this point in time. I'm just being honest. I couldn't do it."

OK, so this is the bottom line. If we love UT football, and we want to win, and we want to kick some butt in recruiting, we need to support Coach Dooley. We need to stop trashing him, lay off the negative, support the team and support this coach.

Dave Hart, the Board of Trustees, and the major donors will eventually decide his future. Not us. Meanwhile, let's be fans.

    Go vols

Support your team. Back their coach. To the hilt.

Well said and great post............and that's the truth. +1

Rocky plus 1 and gmshooter plus 1--only problem is the sidewalk bammers--yes even f-boomb is a bammer. And you know what I am so glad cause there will be a day when we are back on top--bammer has been on the wrong end and it is about time we get that streak started again.

As I have said in other threads-as long as we win the games we are supposed to win this year we will be better next year. The only one I really wanted this year out of all the 3 was FLA I just got punch drunk on the orange-aide and I was ate up. Once I saw what we were up against in the following weeks (because I did not believe aTm was what they are) I came back to reality. We get a break or two in the next two games and who knows we might just be in for a surprise. The month of Nov. will be good to the Vols and we really need the extra time on the practice field to get even better skilled at the new D schemes. That will build us the confidence we will need for a great spring and then the eternal wait til next fall.

    VFL go big ORANGE
