Coach Jones needs to go and get Asiantii Woulard

  • I feel certain that if Coach Butch wants him, then he will be visiting campus before NSD. The programs he is interested in all went through coaching changes (USF, NC State, and now Tennessee).

From ESPN, on the Final Elite 11 rankings, where Asiantii Woulard finished #1 and took home the MVP Award. The other 10 guys he beat out are committed to the following programs: USC, Penn St, Oklahoma St, Cal, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Maryland, Miami, and Arizona State.

Twenty-five quarterbacks were invited, but only the best were named the Elite 11.

A look at the players, in order of how they were ranked, who earned that honor with a breakdown of their week and a take from Senior National Recruiting Analyst Tom Luginbill:

    1. Asiantii Woulard
    Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park
    College: South Florida

Breakdown: Woulard suffered a groin injury early in the week, but bounced back in a big way and was named the Elite 11 MVP. Woulard was at his best when it mattered most, as he was the only quarterback to lead two touchdown drives during the two-minute drill on the final day of the event.

Luginbill's take: "Coming into the event from a national perspective, he was a guy that not a lot of people knew about. We were glad he was selected as a finalist because we felt he would blossom if given the opportunity. He is a dual-threat guy with premier arm talent and a natural release. The sky is the limit from a ceiling standpoint because he has only played the position for one year."

FWIW, Riley Ferguson was in the 25 who competed for the 11 spots, but didn't make the final 11 due to a thumb injury. He battled hard through the injury, and drew good reviews because of that, but it was too much to overcome in the end.

Since Butch was hired, here are some of his tweets:

  • One positive that someone pointed out is that Willie Taggart has already accepted the commitment of a QB since his hiring at USF. Not 100% positive on that, but I remember it being posted.

  • All I have to say is if Jones was able to bring him in I think that would turn everyone in his favor. He would be a recruit from Florida top 100 in the nation. Almost like Stokes did for Martin prove he can recruit and silence the fears we had right away. I think he would be a good kid to have.

USF has a Pro QB committed, which I believe is the kind of QB Taggart wants

  • Does Jones favor dual-threat QBs?

I think he may favor them, but he doesn't require them. He basically just said that he builds around what he has in the stable.

  • I'm not sure if he favors them, but it helps having an athletic QB with the 'fast and furious' style he wants to put in.

At the Elite 11 he was the only QB to get 2 TD's in the two minute drill in the final day of the competition, so he can definitely do things with his arm too.

Also, in the OP I forgot to mention that Arkansas is another program that has recently contacted him, and they are also going through a coaching change. I think TCU is one of the few programs with mutual interest that hasn't had a coaching change.
