From what I've heard, Hart has routinely been in touch with Peyton and Haslem to discuss the potential candidates.

Good info. My list would be Gruden, Stoops, Fisher, Mora, Patterson, Fedora, Strong, Golden, Gundy and then Petrino (in that order).

Every time I see Franklin I want to punch him in the face. With that said if he wasn't a great coach for a team that should never beat or out recruit us I wouldn't feel that way. He has and is doing both of those things. So if the coaches on top of our list don't work out why not lure him away from the dark side and kill two birds with one stone. Pretty sure then we would love him and everyone else would want to punch him in the face. That sounds like a good time to me.

Honestly, if other fan bases don't hate your coach then you're not beating them. I always believed that's how other fans felt about Bruce Pearl. That's the kind of coach I want. God, I miss that guy.

Excellent article. Gruden's biggest impact would be on recruiting, which is desparately needed. His name would get the attention of every top tier recruit, enabling UT to successfully compete with Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, etc., which they are not doing now. Your assessment of Golden is right on. I am originally from Philly, and recruiting to Temple is almost impossible. He turned around a terrible program, did a great job of recruiting, making them relevant and competitive. I now live in southern Mississippi, and have met Fedora several times. Class guy who did an excellent job at Southern Miss. Did a great job recruiting against the SEC. Look what happened to that program after he left(0-12). They had great success under him.

Good list except I'd have Gary Patterson just barely behind Gruden. I'd have James Franklin just behind Charlie Strong, and Greg Roman (provided Jim Leavitt comes as def coord) right behind Fedora... oh, and Al Golden or Mullen would be off my list bec of NCAA investigations. Twitter @NBKGault
