major, fulmer, game day with ward was the best days always look foward to hearing mr ward on the radio
back in those days tv was limited ,ide rather listen to the game then watch it..always seemed like ide strart watching the game i would jinx the game.
on the game we need those type runners again
I listened to John and Bill a lot in the 80's before so many games were televised- no two better representatives of UT will ever exist.
I have seen that video many times but it still brings a tear to my eye. Man, I wish he still called the games.
I think a lot of people use to watch TV with the volume down and Ward on the radio.

I have yet to watch that video and not tear up and get a knot in my throat!
Favorite two moments - Aaron Hayden sceeen and no-sir-ree!
This was done in my house every weekend.
Truthfully Kesling never had a chance. But I admire everything he has done as well!
Kesling faced the exact same issues that Aaron Rodgers had following Brett Favre or Steve Young had following Joe Montana. It's always hard to follow a legend, and if you falter even a little bit people will jump all over your case. I think Kesling knew from the start that he could never be Ward, and that rubbed some people the wrong way.
On a side note, wasn't Kesling originally part of the Jefferson-Pilot broadcasts before moving to Tennessee full-time?
Yes. In the early days of Bumbling Bob, I used to call him "Jefferson Pilot on the Radio." It was almost like he didn't get the fact that people listening to him were not also watching the game. Part of that, though, was the unfavorable comparison to Ward, who truly painted a picture of what was happening on the field.
I first became a TN fan listening to games on my alarm clock radio in my childhood bedroom. I remember rushing in from Wednesday night church to listen to Allan Houston, Lang Wiseman, and Carlos Groves during the Houston years. Guns.....bang. I also would saddle up with an RC and Moon Pie on football Saturdays to listen to Mr. Ward and Bill Anderson. One of my most prized Vol possessions is a football purchased at the 98 Fiesta Bowl as a freshman student that John Ward signed at a basketball game that year. Thanks for posting. Good memories!!
+1 because my grandfather, father, and myself all made that our every game day thing as a kid. Awesome times. In response to UTBULL's comment about putting Ward on the radio and turning down the tv volume.

I know I'm bored but holy Jesus hearing Ward's voice never ceases to give me chills and make me want to run through a wall. Could we by chance skip the off season and start playing games already?!
Jay Price...as in Chattanooga State's coach?
