Huge pickup for the braves!!
That's great stuff. +1
Welcome Mr. Upton. Now to pass that physical and get to work...
Sorry changing the subject but I'm liking what the braves are doing
uhhh he's terrible.. maybe some of you have him confused with Justin Upton?
well, i shouldn't say he's terrible. he is a 20+ bombs/ 30+ steals guy but I like guys that bat above .250 and he hasn't done that since 2008.
He is not terrible he is better than bourn?
Personally, I like Bourn better. He gets on base a lot more, steals more bases, and better at moving runners over.
Batting average is a mostly antiquated stat. On-base percentage is what really matters, and while Upton is an inconsistent hitter, he's a pretty decent on-base guy with speed and a bit of power. Even when he's struggling to get hits, he usually draws a decent number of walks and gets on base at a better-than-.300 clip.
This year, he had a career-low .298 OBP. But if he can get that back up above .300, he's a very useful player who just goes through more than his fair share of rough stretches.

Yes, but no one fears Bourn in the lineup. I loved Bourn while in ATL, but I like Upton better as far as the power/fielding/speed combo.
Bingo. Upton has a good glove, good arm, power and speed. His on-base percentage won't be extremely high, but if he can get it back into the .320-to-.330 range, he'll be a great addition for the Braves.
5 yrs 70-75 mill LOL horrible move. Career under-achiever
I wouldn't say that's a horrible move. I don't love him at that price, but I'd say he's worth $11 million to $12 million. A lot of times, you've got to overpay a bit to get talent in free agency. He may be worth the gamble.
He adds the right-handed power bat that we needed and we don't give up anything in the field. He may be an underachiever, but he's got better power lefties hitting around him. His underachieving just might change with a new clubhouse and supporting cast. I feel good about it.

Drizzle get ready to be behind us in the standings again this year we will have the best pitching staff
Oh trust me I'm prepared Phils are on a downward spiral. They need to move Lee or Halladay to shed salary and get younger. They got some solid pieces in place, picked up a good bullpen guy today, and last year our record was very good when Ryan Howard came back. We will be in the mix, but won't be the same team as 2-3 years ago.
Yeah y'all do have the pieces but we will see I'm trying to come up there for a game you think you can hook me up with some tickets ?
Easily, let me know. Phillies tailgate is like a concert tailgate to. Tons of 17-25 year old girls walking around in Phillies belly t-shirts. It's a lot of fun. Ballpark food was voted best in baseball to. Not a bad seat in the house either.
FIFTEEN MILLION A YEAR?!?! DEAR LORD! what have I done to deserve this from sports God's?!
Good pick up but I guess this means no Bourn that sucks..
