I have been on his band wagon from the beginning. He would be a tremendous hire IMO.
I love the hire. I posted this on Saturday right before Louisville lost to Syracuse, but I don't care; I still like him and he is going to be a winner in the SEC. If we don't hire him, we will be sitting around saying "he could have been our coach, now we can't beat him".
On my short list and deserves serious consideration. Louisville wants to keep him and said they will match. Even if that's true, the prestige of the SEC and the chance to take on Flordia will be too much for him to turn down, IMO. Truly hope that we go after guys like Strong and Golden before loading up on Petrino and all his baggage.
If you want to be ky in football go hire strong. He has a 70+ ranking recruiting class at loiusville and has barley won some games they should have had there way with and got pummled by a bad syracuse team. Omg are you guys serious!
Who would you want us to get and we can compare them.
I like the idea of hiring him though he's not the "home run" hire we may need. He has had success at a place like Louisville, which isn't the easiest, and more importantly is a defensive-minded coach with years of experience in the SEC. I don't know how well HE recruits, but it seems he's pulled some 4 and perhaps 5 star guys at Louisville. Even if he's not the best recruiter, he can surround himself with great recruiters who are also great coaches.
He's my first choice based on all the names I've heard, including Gruden, but I'm not paid to make that call.
Go find me a coach that hasn't won a national championship in the past 6 years and isn't named Spurrier who could recruit any better to Louisville than what Strong has done. It's LOUISVILLE man! They will forever be a basketball school. Hell, they have worse in-state talent than Tennessee does. The man was a DC on 2 national championship winning Florida teams and was Holtz's DC at USCjr in the early 2000's when they won I believe 9 and 10 games in back-to-back seasons. He is doing great things at L'ville and it doesn't matter that it's in the Big East because the competition is relevant and equal. With his experience in the SE, he would have no problem recruiting here and ask any Florida fans' opinion of him. They love the guy and most are praying to the football gods that he doesn't end up being our head coach. So yeah, I'm serious. He's the best hire we could make that's not named Gruden and I'm not so sure that he isn't a better candidate than Gruden.
The guy we got now is doing so much better!! Lol!!
I think we are fools if we at don't at least make Gruden turn us down. I believe it's a pipe dream and I was just as sick of hearing about him as everyone else, but I think you have to at least offer him.
He has a pretty good reputation and may be interested in the position. I don't know that much about him. Can he compete in recruiting in the SEC out of the gate?
If any of the rumors about Gruden are true, make him say no. Then my first two calls are Gary Patterson and Chuck Strong.
I haven't seen many Louisville games, but they seem to be playing a lot of mediocre teams close even though they have more talent.
Obviously he would be an upgrade over Dooley, but long term I don't know if he gets us back to a championship level.
I would love the hire.
Omg let me see that is so hard i realize that might be diffcult for you but lets see Dan Mullen msu coach has actually recruited pretty well in the sec and that is a conference just a little tougher than the daunting Big East. You red

While I would like the hire, I think you have to make a few other guys tell you no before you reach out to Charlie Strong.
So I'm red? And yet you are the one responding without even understanding my post or giving any factual information to refute my arguements? Instead you just resort to name calling because you can't actually form a logical thought in that sad excuse for a brain that you have? I said find me a coach that could recruit at LOUISVILLE better than Charlie Strong that isn't one of the top 10 biggest names in college football. You can't compare Mullen's recruiting at MSU to Strong's recruiting at L'ville. Two completely different animals. Mullen is recruiting to an up-an-coming SEC school in a state that has better in-state talent while Strong is trying to get kids to come play for a basketball school in the Big East with worse in-state talent than Tennessee. By the way, Mullen's recruiting class rankings both nationally and amongst SEC programs according to Rivals:
2009- 25th overall, 10th in SEC
2010- 38th overall, 9th in SEC
*2011- 44th overall, 10th in SEC
2012- 30th overall, 9th in SEC
Not exactly what I would call "knocking it out of the park". And 2011 was coming off of a 9 win season with a bowl win against Michigan.
Just for fun, let's look at Strong's recruiting at L'ville: (Note: he was hired at L'ville 2 months before NSD in 2010)
2010- 48th overall
2011- 29th overall
2012- 42nd overall
Call me "red" if you want, but I don't see a whole lot of disparity between the two coaches in recruiting, yet Strong is doing it at LOUISVILLE.
So before you go all half-cocked, talking out of both sides of your mouth and calling people names, why don't you take a second, collect your thoughts, and try and form a logical thought in your brain before jotting it down on a message board without any stats or facts to support your claim. And one more thing, it's called punctuation. You should try it sometime in your posts. It would really help all the "reds" like myself understand you "intellects" a lot better. My Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee didn't help me to understand jibberish.

Mullen vs. Strong is a no brainier to hire Strong. His D's at UF were nasty. I would take Stong, keep Chaney and get JC back for defense with a new staff. Keep the offensive staff in place, dump the defensive staff and hire a defensive minded HC. Problems solved.
Done. Do it.
First quote that defeated your argument, and second quite that defeated your argument.
Sorry bud, but the Big East is still a basketball-first conference. The "competition" is neither relevant, nor equal. Given, Louisville is decent. They did destroy UK and squeaked by UNC. Those are decent wins, but not the quality of major SEC opponents.
And, "better than Gruden" just made me laugh.
Good luck with that argument.
No I think you misunderstood my point as well. I am in no way saying that the Big East is relevant and equal to the SEC. I'm saying that Strong's talent at L'ville is relevant and equal to the talent of other Big East schools and yet he is kicking their butts. Granted he just lost to Syracuse but USC almost lost to them and probably should have. My other point is that you can't claim Strong is a poor recruiter just because of his class rankings at L'ville because, yes, the Big East, and especially L'ville, are basketball schools and always will be. If Strong were given the opportunity to recruit to an SEC program, what makes you think he couldn't recruit with the big boys? He did it for years at Florida and USC while winning 2 NC's as Florida's DC. And I didn't say he would be a better hire than Gruden, I said I wasn't sure that he wouldn't be. He is a proven college head coach and recruiter while Gruden hasn't done it in 20 years. Plus, I don't feel that Strong would ever leave us if he found success here whereas Gruden wouldn't be here for more than 5-6 years IMO because he would jump back to the NFL eventually and leave us hanging. Having said that, if they both wanted the job, send me Gruden. But I think you guys need to have a full understanding of my posts before trying to argue against it and calling me a "red". Not you, but Turf.
Strong may end up having success in the SEC one day.. I'm not gonna sit here and say he won't, but I don't think he is close to being a slam dunk hire. His defenses were good at Florida, but when was the last time Florida DIDN'T have a good defense? His defense now (in his 3rd year gainst weak competitition) is ranked 46th.
His record prior to this season was 14-12. That's not to dismiss this seaon. They've certainly had a good year, but five of their wins have been by 7 points or less, including one to Florida International and they did just get beat by Syracuse. Yes, Louiville is 9-1. So is Rutgers, in the same conference, yet you don't hear anyone campaigning for Kyle Flood to be our coach. Why? Because everyone knows their conference is terrible so nobody pays them any attention. Why is Charlie Strong so much of a better HC candidate, because he was once able to make Florida's defense as good as the defenses before him AND after him? His defense right now is ranked 46th, in his 3rd year, in the the Big East. I'm not impressed.
