They have officially denied the ownership stake rumors regarding Gruden. Now here's my question; and RockyTopATL, Ghosts of Neyland, W/R/K or anyone else with a journalistic background feel free to chime in to answer me.
I was born and raised in Memphis and the only news channel my mom watched was WREG. Glenn Carver has been their sports anchor for as long as I've been alive and is very well respected.
Why would he put this out there without 100% confirmation?
IYO, what do you think will happen to him, if anything?
It just baffles me that he would do this.
The Cleveland Browns have plenty of issues to worry about heading into the offseason. Who will be the head coach at the University of Tennessee is not one of them.

I'll hang up and listen.
I think the Browns stuff is BS. However, Gruden's answer this morning on Mike and Mike was Not a denial of interest in UT. I have been skeptical that Gruden would come and will still believe it when I see it. But, that stated, his answer this morning, for the first time, makes me think there is actually some fire to go along with all the smoke. Again, not saying he is coming, or I have some inside knowledge (because I don't), but this whole deal now does not seem as far fetched as I once thought it was.
the station in Memphis now has the statement from the Cleveland Brown's that the rumor is not true. They haven't taken down the article though, they just put the Cleveland statement at the begining.
Maybe they are sticking by their sources.
If it's total BS, which I think it is, I would expect them to remove the article and say they've confirmed that rumor to be false. I've seen media outlets do that before.
+1 to everyone in this thread for the analysis on why/how something like this report came out. Interesting thoughts on how media is evolving with the speed of information available.
+1 to everyone and thanks for the responses guys. It is a shame to see a lot of the journalistic integrity flying out of the window these days. I guess things like that become even more prevelant depending on the magnitude of the story, and had it been true, this would have been GINORMOUS. So I guess it makes sense to have seen a GINORMOUS screw up. Just didn't expect it to be from a guy like Glenn Carver. Great discussion ITT fellas.

Ok first off everybody is going to deny everything and I don't believe it either but Jon gruden is interested in this job whether you think it is a pipe dream or not it isn't. He also didn't sound in denial on Espn this morning
Question for the news guys if you would indulge me.
I know very little about journalism, I was a mass comm major for a semester and then figured out I was too ugly for TV.
HBO's show The Newsroom, they often referred to having "two sources" before breaking a story. Is there any kind of ethical rule like this in the field? Did either of you have certain criteria before you went public with news?
