"There are 36 Patriots who came up in Internet recruiting era. 18 were rated as 2-Star prospects or worse."
10 were 3-star, 6 were 4-star and 2 were 5-star (QB Ryan Mallett and LB Brandon Spikes). The other 17 (including Brady, Wolfolk and Welker) were pre-Internet ranking for the particular site this article comes from.
Jarrod Mayo was a 4-star prospect and Shawn Ellis is pre-ranking.

Interesting. Seems coaching could be the answer.
Are those 18 2 stars on that patriot defense? J/k... That number seems a little higher than what you might usually find on some of the other teams. It does show you that rankings aren't an absolute on how great your team is. You have to trust in your coach and his evaluations
Victor Cruz was a 1 star recruit. Just proves players develop at different times
I literally hate arguing about star ratings. It's a good story the pats have going on but star ratings are a great indicator of a players athletic ability more times than not

This has a lot to do with the fact that there are fewer 4-and-5 star players.
Thanks for this post RunThruThe T.
Too many folks (including Vol fans galore) get too wrapped around the axle on the number of stars. yes, the number of stars a player has and the overall number for a team ranking are key indicators. but that is it, indicators. I believe that our HC DD and our RC TJ are excellent at evaluating talent early on and this has been proven out already. However, I think it will show itself in a major way this coming season.
our staff seems to be ahead of the recruiting sites and many times that seems to never totally correct itself as far as, the class rankings go. we should have college recruiting rankings 2 and/or 4 years after their NSD.
