Some saying that Cincy radio is reporting Butch Jones has accepted the job. Confirmation guys?
I hope this is not true. How do you hire one of the few guys that managed to lose to Dooley?
If it is,at least we will have another shot at landing gruden/strong/fisher in 3 or 4 years.
Just flat out ignorant.
Honoring the greatest coach of all-time ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Neyland
If he comes I think it will do just fine after adapting to the SEC, we all know year one for any new coach here isn't going to be great just making improvements in all areas it what we should concentrate on. By the way IF it does happen and he does terrible he and gets fired in three or four years that is about the time Strong and Fisher would be looking for a raise again. If he doesn't work out I would offer everyone else in country before either one of those two guys and that includes James Franklin
You can't base anything on 1 game and Dooley beating him. First off at no time should Cincinatti be able to come into Knoxville and beat TN. I dot care who the coach is. Secondly, that was probably the most inspired game I think I saw UT play under Dooley. It would not be that so-called Homerun hire but what other "proof" besides 1 game can you lay out that he wouldn't be able to succeed here?
Apparently Volquest reporting no offer, no interview, and no formal meetings with Dave Hart. Makes more sense....one would think that we would hear about some sort of interview or formal offer judging by the timeline of how we've handled other candidates.
You do know that Strong lost to Mario Cristobal (who was fired from FIU after this season), right?
I mean...it is one thing to lose to a bad coach in a superior conference with superior players but it's another thing all together when you lose to another coach like Cristobal and a team like Florida Atlantic.
Thanks for that thoughtful analysis General.
I was under the impression that if a 10-3 team that defeated an SEC opponent in a bowl game lost to a sub-.500 team by 22 points and in the process gave up 500+ yards on defense, that would reflect that the team was outcoached. I guess I was just being "ignorant."
I'll support Butch from the start. Having an offer to coach the Tennessee Volunteers is an amazing opportunity, and this man wants it. It's not Butch's fault that fans want someone with a greater resume than his, and it's not his fault that he is being offered the chance to take this challenge head-on. He will give his all, and he can do no worse than 1-7 in SEC play. Give the man a chance!
They were talented enough to beat vanderbilt In the 2011 liberty bowl by a larger margin of victory than we just one month before...
New here, don't want to "stir the pot" but.....Jones did beat Strong out for Big East coach of the year today....with one more loss than UofL. Less talent than Louisville by most margins....so let's welcome the guy with open arms if it him, and try to turn the page to a new bright future for UT..Just sayin'
i got agree i dont by any means seeing this as bad hire..butch seen something at tenn to lead him believe he can win at tenn..hes done far more with less talent..if hes hired i hate it for all the cincy fans
and there school..kelly isnt he the guy come from cincy and went to irish and playing for nc this year?
not trying to compare the 2 ..but jones had done as good as kelly imo at cincy.
i believe this will work out ..i know the jury will be out ..hes got a class in the 50's in recruiting and still win the east 4 out 5 or 6 times what ever it is...let me ask everyone this could dooley go to cincy and win? so ide say we got the better choice if hes hired..i cant see pittman..graham..going any where
with this hire ..and might retain some more staff for recruiting for jones .which would make since to me
jones having 4 stars would be like having 5 stars at cincy..hes young and has that fire and want to show he can compete in the sec ..plus he wants the job..i can see him being the savior without selling your soul to the devil...I CAN SEE THIS WORKING OUT ..might take 2 years ..but he will compete with what we got and ide almost be willing to bet on that...again i feel for cincy and there school..making hire this late screws everyone in the end ..before and after the hire....lets get behind butch give him his shot
why else would he want to come to a barn on fire if he couldnt save it?go vols and if jones is hired lets get on with at least we know where we stand now....and hope for the best..i have faith in butch he will do better then dooley..we all know that so this is still upgrade whether some see or not..go vols
I agree that Jones is a good coach, and the blind love I have for Tennessee football will make me root for him with all my might. However, the realistic side of me tells me this isn't the hire that brings us back to where we were in the 90s, which is what it will take to stay around for more than 4 years.
And I stand by the position that Jones was outcoached by Dooley in 2011 and do not like being called "ignorant" and downvoted for calling a spade a spade.
You are right John, it is the AD from bama fault IMO. If he could manage his way out of a paper bag the attitude on this board tonight would be different.
T.Y. Hilton was the reason Strong lost the game. NFL receiver who is running past a lot of NFL players. He's one of the reasons that Indy is playing pretty good this year.

I too agree to a large extent.....Brian Kelly had a good run on lower tier of talent at Cincy, was consisitent as well. Tho he's only been at ND a short time, he's proven himself a great return on risk/investment for the Irish. Kelly/Jones have a similar style and philosophy on the field. Maybe that "mojo" would be successful here too? I am as tired of the "down time" at UT as anyone, but I like most of us want the circus to be over, tear the tent down, load up the freaks and geaks and move on to another town! I will support Jones if he gets the nod...GBO!!!!!!!
The thing we forget is that the team in Dooley's second year was probably his best team of the three. When we played Cincy, we were at full health and were a dangerous ball club. After injuries to Hunter and Bray, we were not. Cincy would have beat us at the end of the year. I think if those two guys didn't get hurt, we would have won 8 to 9 games in Dooley's second year and who knows, he may still be here today. Forming an opinion on Jones by just looking at that one game isn't the most prudent thing to do. It really is ignorant, which isn't an insulting word, it simply means lack of knowledge.
One other thing, we were favored that day. If I recall by a touchdown or so. So, it's not like Dooley Upset Cincy!
Guys you can't accept a job that you have not been offered.
No indications that Jones has agreed to come to Tennessee, but I did find this from the Cincinnati Enquirer:
That's true! VQ says no job offer yet and this site hasn't confirmed one either, although the "it is his job to turn down" comment, insinuates one.
Well, going by your logic he's a better coach than James Franklin, then.
I think he is. Franklin won't sustain Vandy long term.
I gave my input in my original thread that I was called a troll in. I don't get how Wes and all the other beat writers deal with all the conflicting stuff coming in. I have a couple friends with inside info and its ridiculous as soon as someone like Wes posts something. I have one guy I completely trust and will only post stuff I hear from him.
