Golden may not be top 3 on the list, but just about every candidate is an improvement from Dooley. Just about all of them would have better results. The biggest thing is which coaches can return us to the top of the sec and i believe there's more than one to return us to the top. It's not Gruden or bust like some believe.
I watched Miami play several games this year and what stood out was how hard his kids played for him and how they never quit - the Georgia Tech game is the best example of this. This is in contrast to Tennessee, which for the past several years has run for cover everytime adversity hit.
Golden is well respected both at the collegiate and pro level. He wouldn't be my first choice but I wouldn't be unhappy if he was hired.
No, I definitely wouldn't rule him out. He's worth a look. We have our back to the wall. We need a 10 year hire not another 3 year or less hire. We have a very limited cast of prospects at this time and we have a total of 4 SEC teams looking to make a sexy hire. Therefore there is a lot of competition for a very small supply of candidates. If you actually look at Golden's record, his record trends and the challenges he faced at Temple and Miami, he's not a bad idea. No one is sexy like Gruden, but in reality Gruden may not be exactly itching to move to TN for various reasons. Yes, I understand he's been complimentary of us in the past, that his in-laws are an hour away, but being complimentary and positive is his style. He says positive things about everywhere he's been. We have to at least be looking at plans B, C and D right now. I think Golden may fit one of those.
Can't agree...given time & support we would be doing alot better.
I don't think what he accomplished at Temple is that relevant to what would be asked of him at UT. That may not make sense to some people, but there is a difference in my mind between building a nothing program like Temple playing nobodies, and taking a program like Miami or UT to the next level.
Miami is playing exactly like they did under Randy Shannon. They don't dominate anybody despite having more talent, and his recruiting is horrible (64th at Miami is absurdly bad, he losses battles to FSU and UF routinely).
Saying he is better than Dooley is pretty irrelevant considering there are probably 100 coaches in D1 who could make that argument.
Bringin' it today my friend. +1
If Golden is hired, IMO, we must have gotten turned down by several coaches higher up the food chain. I really hope and think we can do better.
I don't think there is any doubt about that but I also think Golden is probably in the top 5 (at #5). It is very possible that we go through several candidates before we make a hire. I know and agree about the need to hire the home run guy. If Gruden turns out not to be our guy there is a step down to Stoops and Fisher (of which neither may be interested) and a huge step down to the group with Golden, Fedora and Jones. We just may end up down there. There is not a lot to chose from this year. Our timing is bad in that regard.
