Not sure if anyone saw or not, but our Lady Vols brought home 2 relay national championships tonight. They are also (to the surprise of many, including Georgia) well in the hunt to bring home the overall championship.
Didn't realize this was going on in Indianapolis. Definitely going to have to wake up tomorrow and head down to my old stomping ground at IUPUI's Natatorium to cheer on the ladies!
That's great news, thanks for the info. The Lady Vols are lookin' good in all aspects. GBO
Make that 3! Yet another relay won their event tonight. Team is in 3rd place heading into the last day of the meet. About 20 points behind Cal, less than 40 behind Georgia.
As a former swimmer, I can assure you that 40 points can be made up in a single event. The Lady Vol's are far from out of an overall national championship!
Hey Indy, Indiana used to have one of the best swim teams in the country. The coach was a guy who went by the first name Doc but I can't remember his last name. The guy was a legend...dang I hate my ole fart memory.
That would be Doc Counsilman you're referring to, I believe. IU and Purdue both have pretty good swimming history, which is why Indy has the IUPUI Natatorium. It's a world class facility. Sure Doc had a hand in it. Also why USA Swimming & Diving's HQ is in Indy.
congrats to the lady vols
Awesome! I'll root for UT in anything, even tiddlywinks, if there's a competition, and certainly the ladies have been getting it done more than the men lately.
Desperate for any UT victory, there I sat last Sun. afternoon, screaming at my TV as the Lady Vols lost at Florida in softball. But at least they're still a top 10 team.
"Bravely taking to his feet, he beat a very brave retreat." Sir Robin's Minstrels.
Welp, our Lady Vol's are the 3rd best team in the nation!!!!
Very strong showing for the ladies. 3rd place was a very unexpected result and one that Vol Nation should be proud of!
Now time to root for the men next weekend!
congrats !! 3rd in the nation in anything is amazing
What was your event Indy?
This is great to hear about. I used to work at Allen Jones Intecollegiate Aquatic Center (AJIAC) when I was at UT. This was from 2008-2010. There are just lots of good people there, management, students athletes, coaches; hell even the janitors there were damn nice people and the family atmosphere surprised even me.
I wish nothing but the best for the Vols and Lady Vols swim and dive teams. After the passing of assistant coach Joe Hende in 2011, I know these teams have had to overcome a lot. I'm glad that I was around for a short time to witness their 5:30 a.m. workouts and friendly personalities. Those are some hardworking kids who deserve nothing but the best.
Congrats on their 3rd place finish this year.

500, 200, short and long relays.
Distance swimming, yay...
I swam summer league and high school. I also played basketball so I didn't focus on swimming as much as I would have liked to. I was a sprinter. 50 free, 100 free in high school and butterfly on the medley relay.

Fly was the bane of my existence. I tore a muscle in my shoulder sophomore year, so after that fly was the one stroke I wasn't allowed to swim. Never quite recovered from that surgery either. It was too bad, our team was good. Swimming is a HUGE deal in Indiana.
Oh I know! Sorry about your shoulder. Happened to one of my best friends in high school. He was one of the top swimmers in the southeast and hurt his shoulder doing weight training.
didnt know we had such a great team this year - is the mens team really good as well this year ?
Not as good as the women's team to my knowledge.
No, but still very much a top 10-15 team and might surprise some people this weekend.
thats great news , love it when our Vols compete with the very best
