...because otherwise people would be wanting to know how we can go back-to-back games and not score 40 points. I have to think this is more than just about missing Maymon. If things don't get turned around than I see at least 3 more losses before we begin conference play - Wichita State, Xavier and Memphis - and we are playing for another NIT title.
i agree...i forgot about the game until late last night and when i looked it up i wished i hadn't remembered it.
what happened this time?
I said the exact same thing to my dad this morning. Not being on TV last night helped him too from being ridiculed.
I turned the game off at halftime. It was boring to watch.
I posted this last night
Am really beginning to worry if CCM can get the job done.
If you do not understand RPI and where we are right now then please do not come
Good grief. Nowhere near close to saying NCAA is out. We are just in a slump. Maybe this break for finals will help. I look forward to the next home game.
Just another lemon into lemonade job. - Switchfoot
Agree 100%. Any coach who doesn't zone us should be fired on the spot. Golden keeps saying the right stuff about attacking a zone and then the game starts and he doesn't do it. Stokes has taken a grand total of 10 shots in the last two games. That has to be fixed and fixed now.

It's time to start thinking seriously about getting Bruce Pearl back on the sidelines!!!! Cuonzo is not the man to put Tennessee basketball back on the map!
I just want to know how we still have Trae Golden playing PG when he really isn't one. We need a real point guard.
Also, we seem to recruit primarily 6-4 to 6-7 guys who can't shoot. We have a real glut of them. We need some shooters.
I really cannot deal with this negativity today. You people make me sad.
I'll hang up and listen.
I was there and it was flat out ugly basketball...... UVA played good D, but it was piss poor offensive execution...... the other thing i noticed is that no one on the team can even hit a wide open shot in pre-game warm-ups..... For some reason no one on this team can shoot..... #balldontlie
true that..this coaching search is disguising a hugely disappointing start to the basketball season.. need Maymon back soon, unless we can figure out a way for Hubbs to play for us this year..
According to kenpom.com, Georgetown's adjusted D is 6th in the nation. Virginia's is 16th. Keep that in mind when complaining about all this scoring. Is the offense bad? Sure. But we still had a chance to win both of those games, and with Maymon we likely do win them. Tennessee has a great defense. They have a meh offense which has looked terrible against other great defenses on the road. Aside from that, Tennessee is nowhere close to playing themselves out of contention for an NCAA tournament bid. Give them time. Frankly, this is the record we should have expected with Maymon out.
You don't understand RPI and where we are right now so trying to argue with you is pointless. These losses are going to kill us come tourney time just like last year. You can ignore the facts but just like in Dooley's case but it doesn't change them.
Well okay I give up on the team then. Wait no I don't.
Actually, I'm not sure YOU understand RPI. Road losses and neutral court losses carry significantly less weight than home losses. At the end of the day road losses are given a weight of 0.6, neutral losses 1, and home losses 1.4. That's why the Austin Peay loss killed us last year, because they were sub-300 and it was at home. Every team Tennessee has lost to will likely end up in the top 50 in the RPI. Considering the way the RPI works e.g a significant amount of weight is put on your opponent's results and your opponent's opponents' results, the net effect of the losses we have currently will not be very damaging. Plus, the selection committee considers injuries, and Maymon is an important injury.
I understand RPI, and I know that in mid-December last year, we were about 230 in RPI, and we were on the bubble by the end of the season. Not saying it definitely will get turned around, but there is a lot of season left so I disagree that three losses away from home to likely tourny teams has made the rest of the season a hopeless effort.
Also, I get it, you're depressed, but quit being a jackass to people who are trying to be optimistic.
I get that we just played two teams who play excellent defense. But against Virginia we had a bunch of wide open looks and either passed up the shot or clanked it. If we hit those then the middle opens up for Stokes, who was double and triple teamed. I think we have no confidence shooting the ball right now and I'm not sure why.
We aren't out of contention yet but if we can't figure out a way to be more effective against a zone (a lot more effective) then the NCAA will be a distant memory by the end of January.
Actually I did look and Virginia's RPI is bad but OkSt and Georgetown are not "bad" losses.
But whatever we are doomed in December.
You made my point for me losing to these teams will not help us come tourney time if we had WON they would but we didn't and in no way does losing help us get into the tourney. We are 122nd in the RPI right now with our best win against the 78th ranked RPI team. We just do not have the games we can realistically expect to win against high ranked RPI teams to improve enough to get into the tourney. We finished 2nd in the SEC last year and missed the tourney and the SEC's RPI was a lot better then.
Simma down nah! Yeah the last two games have been ugly offensively, but to say the NCAA is off the table already is jumping ship before the rats. Think UK isn't going to make the tourney, either?
The key is obviously Maymon. If you don't think UT wins those last two games, and maybe the OK St.game, with Mayon on the floor then you probably still think Bill Cowher is our next FB coach.
Worst case senario is he has to take a red-shirt. In that case we'll have him back next year, Hubbs, Golden gone, and Stokes (who isn't NBA ready yet). I like our chances.
Best case senario is he's back for SEC play. In that case we'll be in the top 4 in the league and going to the dance with a good showing in the SEC Tourney.
I agree it's another kick in the nards while they're still red and swollen from across campus, but I'm just not ready to write them off 7 games into the season.
Once again losing to them doesn't help us one bit. Where we are ranked in the RPI is what is going to hurt as we will not have enough chances to improve our rating to get into the tourney. The SEC is horrible this year and that is why I say we are going to have a very hard time getting in as wins in the SEC are not going to help as much as they did in the past.
Cuonzo doesn't play, doesn't shoot. HIs job is to put players in the right spot to give us the best chance to win. You can't win no matter who the coach is unless you have shooters, someone that can breakdown that zone. Maymon does not need to score 30 for us to win. He is the type player that makes others better. Until he gets back on the floor we are going to struggle unless someone steps up.
Well I will still be at every home game. The season will play out and we will see where things stand.
