So, after yesterday's game what do you think the temperature is now?
I'll be honest. As the first quarter concluded yesterday and I saw Georgia having their way with us, I thought one thing. If this is a blowout then Dooley should be gone, no matter how much I like him. And I do like him. I want him to succeed. I don't want to be on a coaching carousel.
Then by the end of the game, I was back on board. Yeah, we lost. But we took it to the end. That's what I've been waiting for for four years now. To me, his seat has gone from hot to slightly warm. We played for four quarters. They fought. When I go to work tomorrow, the Georgia fans won't be dogging me. They'll be talking about how we've improved, I'm sure.
Now this team needs to turn a corner. It's time to beat Ms State. It's time to take it to South Carolina.
Those boys can do it. Why? Because for the first time in several years I saw a team that finally got it.
This. Is. Tennessee.
Cold as ice
1 Step in the Right Direction. Miss St. is the big game. Really have to win it with 2 weeks to prepare.
Given our AD lost a few million last year and that we are still paying buyouts for coaches and an uncontracted former AD, Dooley isn't going anywhere. It's not going to happen unless there is a complete falling apart of the team. Given their improved play Saturday all this hot seat talk is probably a waste of time.
If we lose to Miss St, and Bama fans invade Neyland like they did in Fulmers last year, that could be the dagger. We just have to beat Miss St. so we don't have to worry about it.
I agree with this. Short of a complete meltdown Dooley will be back. Hart knows what it takes to rebuild a program and I think it has all been aiming at '13 from the beginning.
I believe we are in wait and see mode. The seat has cooled off considerably because of how the team is responding and growing each week. They were much improved since we played Florida(ie: offense wise). I think the defense must get settled in and play assignment football. Practice getting off blocks, reacting to the ball faster(anticipating & film study) and tackling in the hole. The offense has greatly improved in execution and game recognition. The run game is more consistant and the passing game is becoming more explosive(of course, still needs work). We can score and move the ball on anyone. Georgia had their complete defense on th field and we put up 44 points and about 480 yards. If our defense improves as much as our offense is doing. By the time we play South Carolina we could be very dangerous. That being said. I had predicted an 8-4 season or 9-3 if things went really well and we suprised a team or two. Either way CDD should be allowed to continue building this program. We are light years from where we were when he got here. And just a few recruiting classes and 6 plays from being an undefeated elite team in the SEC, not just the East. Go Vols!!!
my sentiments also!
I would really hope its cool. When the score was 27-10 I wasn't thinking he should be gone I was worried that the anti-Dooley's or on the fence fans would be calling for his head. I have always believed he was the man for the job. I was impressed with his Bio at LaTech where he was the AD and Head Coach and had to rebuild their program. They say a good way to see how a coach can recruit is to see how they do after he is gone and look at how well Sonny Dykes has done with Dooley's recruits. This team is completely different from the team he inherited, and the good news even with all the experience we are still a young team!
"Old School"! A strong defense wins championships!
Dooley can't control the fans. Win or lose againt MSU, If Bammers invade Neyland blame our fans.
+1 my friend.
Isn't this the only reason we hire a head coach? To win games and essentially protect us from the smack talk of good friends?
