The Marietta Daily Journal reported this week that Kennesaw State University (my alma mater, north of Atlanta) is working on acquiring final approval from the Georgia Board of Regents to launch its D1 football program in 2015. Since Vince Dooley has served as chair of the exploratory committee since early 2009, I was curious if UT's castoff coach might land there to build the program from ground up.
Today, the MDJ's sports editor somewhat officially tossed Dooley's name into the rumor mill in a related column.
KSU is the 3rd largest university in Georgia, seated in the midst of a hotbed for football prospects. They played UT in hoops a few weeks ago.
Will Derek Dooley be the first head football coach in Kennesaw State history? One of Dooley’s biggest supporters did not dismiss the idea.
The regent’s consideration will be the final step in a six-year process of studies, student voting, and fundraising aimed at exploring the possibility of bringing NCAA Division I football to the state’s third-largest university.
