Someone please explain to me what he means by the disconnect between academics and athletics.....
Jimmy Cheek is ruining this once proud program with his academic rules.
He's referring to Jimmy Cheek and his lack of commitment to athletic success. The man could care less about our football program. He needs to be replaced asap.

The Thornton Center's stated purpose is for "academic counseling services, career development program, student development program, comprehensive tutoring program, writing lab, math lab, computer lab, and accommodations for students with special needs." In other words, fulfilling the mission of the university while maintaining high-performing athletics programs. I applaud the university for having higher academic standards. Otherwise, the football program becomes a little more than a revolving door for 20-year-olds to reach the NFL and the university's diplomas barely worth the paper they're printed on.
Need a fine example of a program that doesn't compromise its standards just to recruit blue chip teenagers? The #1 team in the nation, Notre Dame.
